Idea for a news story in Dodge....?

Everyone is always bashing the illegals (rightfully so) and the issue of illegal immigrated has been debated here at least once..lol. What if someone from the local newspaper interviewed the human resources manager at the beef plants and asked them if they hired illegals. What if they put them in the spot light. Would they say..."we don't hire illegals"? Does everyone there have a SS Card and a valid number? How do they know it's valid? If someone is working there illegal and they suspect that they MIGHT be illegal but they hire them without checking, isn't that person helping identity theft/fraud? I think it would make a good story.....???!!

I think thats a great Idea.... but Local paper?? would they do it ?? I think in all of this we are finding out that there are alot more in KAHOOTS with keeping illegals than we first thought..... are we ranting about a losing cause...or will this just die away....

Got this in my email this morning ..... its rather thought provoking.....

Subject:* Retro illegal

This is a REAL letter. Make a copy, insert your
congressmans/congresswomans
name and send it.

The Honorable Paul S. Sarbanes
309 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington DC , 20510
* Dear Senator Sarbanes,*
* As a native Marylander and excellent customer of the Internal Revenue
Service, I am writing to ask for your assistance. I have contacted the
Immigration and Naturalization Service in an effort to determine the
process
for becoming an illegal alien and they referred me to you.
My reasons for wishing to change my status from U.S. Citizen to
illegal
alien stem from the bill which was recently passed by the Senate and
for
which you voted. If my understanding of this bill's provisions is
accurate,
as an illegal alien who has been in the United States for five years,
what I
need to do to become a citizen is to pay a $2,000 fine and income taxes
for
three of the last five years.

I know a good deal when I see one and I am anxious to get the process
started before everyone figures it out. Simply put, those of us who
have
been here legally have had to pay taxes every year so I'm excited about
the
prospect of avoiding two years of the last five years taxes in return
for
paying a $2,000 fine. Is there any way that I can apply to be illegal
retroactively? This would yield an excellent return for me and my
family
because we paid heavy taxes in 2004 and 2005 and I estimated a gross
savings
approximating $72,000. After the fine this would yield me a net
savings of
$70,000.

In addition, I would reap the other benefits of being an illegal alien
such
as free healthcare, avoidance of paying Social Security taxes, buying
automobile insurance, serving on jury panels, etc.

If you would provide me with an outline of the process to become
illegal
(retroactively if possible) and copies of the necessary forms, I would
be
most appreciative.

Thank you for your assistance.

Your Loyal Constituent,

Pete McGlaughlin*

Just a guess, but I think "high people" in "high places" know they are here, and want them here. They make money off of them, while us locals pay for it all!! The Globe is no exception!

I’ve heard of cases like this where “Freddy” came back as “Fredericka” but I think it was something different.

Effective immigration control has been ignored by CONgress since 1892 when the People's Party (aka Populists) was demanding them during the Grover Cleveland(winner)/Benjamin Harrison/James Weaver election.

They had all kinds of fancy ideas. Some of them are now SOP. Some are FUBAR:

Quote:
The national government should own the country's railroads, telegraph, and telephone systems. It said the government -- not banks -- should supply paper money. And it said no limits should be put on government production of silver money.

The Populists called for a tax on earnings. Fewer working hours for labor. Controls on immigration.

To help farmers, the Populists demanded what they called the "Sub-Treasury Plan." Under this plan, farmers could put their crops in government storehouses. Then they could wait to sell the crops until prices rose. While they waited, they could borrow money from the government at low cost. They would pay back the loans when they sold their crops.

The new People's Party also proposed ways to make government more democratic. It said secret ballots should be used in all elections. It said Senators should be elected by the people...not chosen by state legislatures.

Most Americans considered Populist proposals extreme. They felt the proposals were too close to socialism or communism. The Populists considered their proposals just. They felt their movement was a struggle for more equal control of the nation.

On one side of the struggle were producers. These included farmers, laborers, and small businessmen. They were led by the new People's Party. On the other side were what Populists called non-producers. These included wealthy bankers and leaders of industry. They were led by the Republican and Democratic parties.

Populists wanted producers to have some of the political power traditionally held by non-producers. They wanted producers to get a fairer share of the nation's increasing wealth.
