| Since the Dems ran on “change the course” without defining a new course they can’t really claim a mandate. They don’t even have a direction. At least they don’t have one they want to tell us about. It isn’t at all like 1994 when Republicans defined their proposed changes, sweep both houses and worked from their list. With the probable recount looming in Virginia it may be into December before we know the final outcome of the Senate. Not exactly what I’d call a sweeping victory for the Dems.

The democrats made gains in places that were historically conservative because they were able to come up with candidates that could run in the middle. North Carolina elected an anti-abortion, pro-gun democrat to be it's next Senator. So in the right-left context, the democrats were forced to moved to the right and the republicans find themselves further to the right. Surely some conservatives will like this. I personally think it will worsen for the republicans until they make it possible for folks to move back to the middle in that party. Quote:
Immigration is a major issue, more so in certain places than others but it's not going to be the downfall of the USA. We've always been a country of immigrants. Stupid policies by both parties have brought us to the mess we whave now, not some lame brain conspiracy theory that Mexico is out to take over the country. Being in Debt to Asian countries and marginallizing our ability to react to strategic threats is going to do us in much sooner. Quote:

Sheesh, This change happened because the American People by and large, figured out they had been were still being decieved. The stories and tales had changed so often, even the George Will's of the world were taking notice. Speaking of deception, I believe Georgie even mentioned Iraq and Oil in the same speaches last week? Quote:
Even if the Democrats end up getting the Senate seats in Montana and Virginia, there are two independents where one is going to pretty much be a nutcase and Lieberman is going to go his conscience. That still leaves Cheney as the tie breaker. Unless Bush further alienates his remaining base or really screws up even more than he has now, there won't be an impeachment trial nor can the democrats do much with his court nominees. The bigger questions are for now - Will the administration work more on consensus building and try to lead for a change? and Two-can the democratic house leadership actually move to the center and stay there? It's one thing to be in the back seat as the car is careening towards the cliff, its' another to be given the steering wheel and brake control and to see if you gain control. The Board of Directors made it clear they want balance again, only question is will we have it? |

I was told "they(illegals) have to drive to the nearest shop, in Wichita, to get the necessary documents, and we would like to put a work shop in dodge." I told them not just no, but hell no. I think they all should be sent back to where they came from.

I'm trying to find the article I read this morning talking about undocumented immigrants getting a drivers license, from these shops, so they can vote themselves into America.

| We have all heard the complaints about driver's licenses getting folks into the voting booth. It's common knowledge round here. What would posess a person to think it doesn't? Rather than looking for proof that it does...... I say show me proof it doesn't. It certanly gets them into the social security and IRS arena......... think voting is that hard to do??? Hell hundreds of dead people vote every year...... wake up!!

| We guard our voting booths slightly better than we guard our borders. It went to hell when we began registering voters at grocery check lines...

I understand some states have provisional voting in the case when someone presents they're eligible to vote but the information does not jive with the rolls, but those votes are not supposed to be counted unless things get matched up. If you are implying some precints in Texas and elsewhere count the provisional ballots anyway then that's a state issue. In the case of Texas, a solid red state issue and not a democratic trick as was implied. Lurker got it right, the time to prove eligibility to vote is at registration and registration drives at the local store is just too fraught with potential for abuse. |
