A & W: Doomed?

Ok, so my boyfriend and I tested the Sonic and A&W theory yesterday after our comment regarding the debate. At 3:35 we went to Sonic and ordered a diet coke. It took a little over 3 minutes and I could not understand a word they said. There were 3 cars in the joint and we were the 3rd. The two trucks beside us were from Garden City. We drove strait to A&W and ordered a diet Pepsi. It took a little over 2 minutes and the girl was understandable. We were the 10th car on the lot! As we were sitting there I noticed the traffic on 14th wasn't 1/4 of the traffic on Wyatt Earp(Even with road construction)! If I had to choose a location I would be on Wyatt Earp as it is a tourist vein into Dodge City. Anyway's, we do prefer A&W to Sonic and I would only guess that the public has made both restaurants part of their lifestyles. p.s. I donn't think anyone in their right mind could rate McDonnalds, Sonic, or Dairy Queen as Excellent. Have you ever heard anyone say ,"Yeaaa I just came back from MceDeees and it was excellent!" I don't think so! X00

"Excellent," you mean not even "Good" will work. Everytime I go into McDonalds, not that I go there much, just cause I have a buck or two dont get me wrong, they mess everything up. Its like when I ask for no pickles its like telling them EXTRA pickles, and SOnic well when you ask for well done they give you extra SoGGy!!!!! UmM YumMy. I've never had a problem at A&W with bringing me soggy fries or anything else, just plain delicious........

Boy you guys (w/your opinions) are really baggin on Booger! I fully understand the Quality= business but you do know what booger is saying too. Come on step back and LOOK at Dogg Shitty! IN MY OPINION it has gone to hell in a hand basket and alot of it is because no one will support businesses unless they serve rice and beans and that pushes them out of town and down the road. Dont 'pick' on the booger when all he is doing is trying to save a good business from leaving a town he calls home. And hes not he only one who likes A&W, there are others......

Then there's not need for Booger to worry about the success of the business - that's how I look at it. It boils down to - do ya like the food or not - ain't always gonna win everyone's palates.......... I'm sure A&W is secure............ that's how I would run my business......... LOL..... don't worry bout the folks ya don't have - they don'tmatter anyhow.

Booger is a great guy with a great opinion...BUT, one person cannot save a business from going under, only the business itself can do that. The "no one will support business unless they serve rice and beans" is a pretty generalized, somewhat ignorant remark based on no fact and all personal opinion. El Charro serves "rice and beans" and last time I heard they had filed for Chapt 11 bankruptcy. Applebees and Montana Mikes serve neither rice or beans (well white rice) and they do well. Peppercorns is packed on some nights and they are not a "rice and bean" establishment.

The key is consistency and expectations. I have went to A & W on several occassions and sometimes it's good and sometimes it is bad. Sometimes the service is great, sometimes it sucks....I believe that rings true for most places in this town. You can choose a time when their lot is full and sonic isn't but what counts is performance over a period of time. I'd be willing to bet that sonic takes in several times what A&W does.... I like the rootbeer at A&W so I go back about once a month or so.

I support businesses that are good and give a decent product with decent service. What more can you ask for. As far as the "rice and bean" establishment when the population is close to 70% hispanic wouldn't you think that the places to eat would mirror the population?

I see that there are a couple of people that this is their first post. I'm glad that you finally found something you are passionate enough about to speak up and be part of our board. Welcome.

Oh..and by the way... no one "bagged" on Booger, some just disagreed with his opinion as some will disagree with mine. It snot personal with booger...lol

We are all glad you are here - just the same. Five people not going just mean you have to go 5 more times - but it's all good - every business can use the business - no matter who it is

Hey army you are right. My beans and rice comment was wrong and I am sorry.

I compare it to the small mom and pop businesses ran out because of Walmart. Would you goto mom and pops and spend alittle more just to help them? I do. Or leave them to die because they have to raise prices to live?

Back to Quality. Its all in the eye of the beholders' taste buds. I love the rootbeer floats, Fries could be better,yes.

Fast food help is the same everywhere. (BAD)

I like alot of other food places better than A&W but I will support them the best I can, just to help alittle.

I think most folks do that Robin - it's admirable that you do it. Anyone can send me a rootbeer float anytime they want. LOL.. ...... all this is just makin me tear up cause we don't have any A&W to complain about or to rave about........... whaaa whaaaa

Hey, Texie It IS cornfusing, isn't it? An' I don't think we were baggin' on Booger - we were just giving our opinion....it's valid....most of the time. He just didn't agree with it. Doggonnit! And what's with the "some of us don't have a job" thing? I kinda take that personal....cuz my post numbers are up there. We do have jobs, but we like to talk to our friends, too. If ya don't have time, that's OK - Post when you can!
