| I think part of the problem is the freedom being given to children by todays society. For some reason, which I have yet to understand, people seem to think these kids should be treated as adults. That is until they commit a crime then of course they're just being kids. I think schools have become afraid to do what needs to be done, thanks to certain parents and law suits, and kids know it. I also think our immigration issue has had an adverse affect on kids. The law has become more an issue of personal opinion than a set of rules thanks to our failing to enforce it. These immigrants are getting away with things we could never expect too. I think some parents, like the schools, have given up on trying to teach accountability. Kids deface public property because they can and have no respect for themselves or others. Until parents can take the responsibility of holding the schools responsible for allowing the liberal system to turn out a bunch of irresponsible hoodlums there's not much that can be done.

| I agree with D.... there is no short term answer on this problem... I see the defacing of property everyday. Then in the next day or so, I see the owner painting them over. I usually give it another couple of days and those punks are back. Those punks don't care, they don't care because they are brought up that people have to give everything to you and they don't have to give anything back. I am not saying that all those gang members come from illegals. When I moved to this town, there were a couple of gangs and that was back in the 80's. I was just entering into middle school at the time. We knew who they were, but they didn't do all this stupid crap that gang members are doing today. Yep they got into fights and tried to intimidate other people, but it wasn't tolerated, not by teachers and especially not by parents. I remember one instance, I believe I was 14 at the time. There was some members of a gang, they picked fights after school and such. Well, finally the school got tired of it, rounded up those individuals, called their parents, an assembly was called at the school and those kids had to stand up in front of everyone and apologize to the WHOLE school. Their parents were there also. THIS WOULD NOT HAPPEN TODAY!!! Granted, in today's society the gangs do seem more frightening (or should I say more stupid) but back then it was scary to us. If we don't start holding these individuals accountable then it will continue and it will get even more frightening then it is today. I enjoyed this town when I first moved here 21 years ago... and at times now I enjoy it... but man, I would be thrilled if something changed with the gang activity, maybe then I could enjoy ALL the time. | I think Detector hit the nail on the head when he said "They do it because they can and they have no respect for others or themselves." Laws without consequences are just words and words mean nothing to them. They have no morals, and neither do their parents or they would put a stop to it.

| I could sum it up in one word, Accountability. We live in a society of excuses. We have an excuse for everything someone does. Some inconsiderate teacher stands up and spews his hate for religion and we give him the excuse he's just expressing an opinion. Some Marine slaps him down and we hand him the excuse he's doing Gods work. Where is the accountability? That teacher should be held accountable for being inconsiderate toward believers just as that Marine should be held accountable for smacking him down. Now I know that story wasn't real but you get the point. I can guarantee you if I ever catch some juvenile delinquent(s) painting my property I will hold him/them accountable. Personally! I'll give them what they need which is a good kick in the ass. And then I'd expect to be held accountable if I over act. In fact I hold myself responsible for holding that kid accountable. When I was in school kids were held accountable for their actions personally. That is to say you paid for your actions yourself not your parents. If a teacher over reacted then they were held accountable. I say we need to quit making excuses for bad behavior and hold people accountable.

| Well if ya think the gang activity is out of control now - wait till they start killin each other off - as often as the tag personal property.............. I say kick ass now or bury your ass later................ JMHO Course we also have that sundown law........... ya post signs on your property, and if after sundown someone comes onto your property............ you shoot first and ask questions later. You don't have to be "in danger" - it's simple - the warning is at the property line........... anyfool that wants to cross it runs the risk of gettin shot. At night by the time you find out they are there to kill you it's too late............
