| Yes there ARE gangs in the military. The military is a cross section of the civilian population. We also have murderers, rapists, thieves, racists, wife abusers, drug abuse, alcohola abuse and such regardless of how much screening we do but overall we have less gang problems than the civilian world, but the same social issues none the less...But when that stuff happens within the military it is more pronounced because soldiers are for the most part held to a higher standard than Joe Civilian. To think that the military didn't have those problems one would be nieve bording on stupid...so Jeezweeze regardless of the screening you should know that those things still occur unless you fall into one of the categories I mentioned above...nieve or stupid.

| I don't think the army or any military knowingly takes a gang member. I also don't think they go out lookin for gang members so they can meet the ACLU gang quota...... Lots of soldiers have issues that go undetected for years.......... they don't show up on tests........... Look at BTK, Ted Bundy, etc................. it's life............ but the Military code of justice would be a welcome guideline to go by if you ask my opinion.........

| My experience in the military was that most, if not all, gang members and criminals were there thanks to plea bargaining of their lawyers. I met many of them that said they were given the choice jail or the military.

| Well I understand that - but all that does is show our age Detector!!!........... AOO is too young to have experienced all that!....... i think I had a few wayward individuals in my BT as well............. course lots of times they made it thru basic but bombed out in AIT - at which time they went to jail........... if not they "saw the light" made it thru AIT and often times stayed and became career soldiers....... that wasn't a bad program actually........ course kids and crimes were different then...... but I think that's where things like Scared Straight came from....... same concept sorta!

| I think that was a good program - there ain't a DI in the world that is scared of even Satin (yes he does exist - even tho he shows up as folks we know).......himself!...... I think if we could regenerate that program....... it would work cause we all know once the Army "owns you"....... there ain't no more ACLU and intervention. You can roll in your sweet mamas arms all ya want but when your sign on with Uncle Sam............. mamma stays home and all you get to do then is write her.............. and ya damn well better not make her worry!!.......... cause you will answer to your DI for that too.............. yep - I think a diversionary program might be nice......

| I think it was a good program as well. If gangs exist in the military it ain't in basic training. That is unless times have really changed. I've always said I wouldn't send my worst enemy to basic, but it's something everyone should try. The world would be a better place. I watched basic make men out'a boys and boys out'a men. One of the guys I mentioned that was there by court order was a real jerk, at first. We got in a fight on bivouac in the latrine and thats where he told me he was there as a choice of jail or military. He was in our company but a different platoon and given our platoon some bad mouth. Thats what the fight was about. I know, stupid, but I was young and well.. stupid. By the time we graduated he was a totally different person. Charlie company 4th battalion 3rd platoon
