| The old abortion issue.... God I love abortion arguments.......they just bring out the best in everyone don't they? Sorry to say, I think it is those of us in the middle that have the best arguments. I can garuntee this, as long as there are women, Roe V Wade will never be overturned so all those who think it should be, keep up the fight but it is a non-winnable one. I think most of those in the Republican party truly understand this, which is why they compromise. I think most of those in the Democratic party also understand this issue which is why they compromise. It is those who stead fast refuse to budge that will lose votes and probably never get elected. Brownback will never get elected to anything higher than what he is now. Hillary will probably lose the election because she voted, and argued, to go completely the other way because of her late-term abortion ideas. I think 99.9% of most women do not, and would not, have an abortion. They have the same moral feelings you and I have. What 99.9% of most women do not want is somebody (government) telling them what they can't do. I had this discussion with my daughter, something every father really should have. She asked me how I felt about it. This is basically how I answered her: "I, personally, do not like the idea of an abortion. That being said, it is not my decision to make. If you decided that you wanted to get one, it is you that has to live with it. It is you that, years down the line, will be asking yourself if you did the right thing. I will never make you feel guilty about it, never hold it against you, or change how I feel about you." It is when people pussy-foot around the issue, or are not truthful in their opinions, that I lose respect for their argument. Is abortion murder? Yes it is. So is capital punishment. So is war. When you willingly take the life of another human being, be it self defense or whatever, it is still murder. The question is, is it justifiable? To me, if one cannot admit to the fact that it is the killing of another human being, I will not even continue the discussion. I think denying that is just to make the person feel better about their decision. I think to many people get on the religious high horse. If your religion is what you are basing your opinion on, fine. That doesn't make your opinion any better or of higher moral issue. You start quoating the Bible to me, and you get my standard answer: "I am a reformed Catholic. I know the Bible starts with 'In the Beginning' and ends with 'Amen', everything else is just filler." They could stone you to death in the old days for masturbating because it is a sin............enough said. When people say that if it is incest or rape, they agree with abortion then. My question is why? A life is a life is it not? How can you say that it is wrong to kill a fetus because it is a life, then turn around and say it is not a good enough life to save because of how it was made? To me you are saying that "if you play, you pay". I don't know....sounds like those people are saying pregnancy and raising a child is a punishment for a decision one makes. Who does it punish? The mother or the child? Anyway.....how about some arguments on this issue.......

| The only point where I might disagree with you Dutch may be splitting hairs on defining what is justifiable homicide as opposed to murder. I do believe in capital punishment and self-defense. I normally prefer less government involvement on issues and abortion is no exception. The problem as I see it is that our society has become casual about abortion. If it was a rare event and only when it truly did risk the life and health of the mother I would be arguing for keeping the government out of it and leave it between the woman and her doctor. But abortion has become an acceptable method of birth control and I think that goes too far. The best argument that I’ve heard for government intervention is that if government is going to protect anyone the most innocent and helpless lives should be at the top of the list.

| No argument here FD Your post is RIGHT ON As humans we all have to live with ourselves no matter what decisions we make...If we do ANYTHING that tweaks a guilt trip... we have to learn to put that aside as best we can and know that we made the choice for whatever reason... I am a CHRISTian....but absolutely not religious....I am a reformed BABTIST but believe that Christ is our PERSONAL savior as stated in scripture...we all have different needs and God made us separate from animals and gave us the choice mechanism...NUFF OF THAT I was preggo at 16..... my father encouraged an abortion...this was when abortion was not legal....and the abortionist was a woman with a coat hanger... My future husband had a fit and said no way...and I have a beautiful daughter that is a pleasure in my waning years.... Two loved ones ....had abortions ....and trust me.... they have fits of guilt on occasion...but do not trip out on it....you cant let decisions keep you in a mental... fetal position ...for the rest of your life For what ever reason ....a woman feels she needs to have one... (and MOST of the time its because the seed planter refused to tend the garden) then its up to her...if the planter wont step up and share the harvest... I don't agree that abortion should be used as birth control ...I believe thats what happens in most cases... I don"t have any numbers to quote on that so this is JMHO LOVE YOUR DAUGHTERS ....NO MATTER WHAT ...cause they will need your support and need you to comfort them and dry their tears.... AMEN
