| New Fox news show YouTube - Joel Surnow's "The 1/2 Hour News Hour" Kind of funny.... I wonder how well this show will do once it comes out...?

| I wonder if it will survive longer than Err Amerika did? My bet is that it will work but I am biased.

| [quote=Highwayman;33663]Looks like something to go head to head with that phony news show on the Comedy Channel. Thing is, most young adults from my generation get their news from Jon Stewart on Comedy Central. While it may not be Brian Williams with NBC or anchor of the day on CBS, Jon does present the news of the day and keeps us informed. I don't think there's too much phony with his show. Getting back on topic, FOX, I think, realizes there is more room for news that is short and to the point. If want to read and know more about a topic, I'll google it for myself at the time of my liking. I hate watching the news only to see a 5 minute clip of "Saving America..." on a topic I could care less about. |

| ...and you don't see a problem in that? LOL

The show's writers often repeat the fact that The Daily Show is a comedy program and not a reliable news source by itself. The show does not follow normal rules of journalistic integrity, but much of the schtick of the program involves questioning whether establishment television news sources in the United States, notably the cable news channels CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News Channel, are holding themselves to high journalistic standards. Likewise the show is far more likely to point out acts of government ineptitude (such as a Senator doing a crossword puzzle during a relatively important hearing), hypocrisy and contradictory statements than most sources in the legitimate media.

| True, and I guess you've highlighted my point with main stream news media, not a reliable news source by itself. I certainly hope that not everybody believes every word that comes out of an evening news anchor's mouth as gospel. Look at what happened to Dan Rather. And that's from somebody that held himself to a "high journalistic standard"! I guess I just prefer the fast paced style and then I read up on stuff that interests me. And I think you'll find most young people (who are interested in the news of the day) do the same exact thing. |

| OK so you got me...that's when I get my news is during the commercial breaks of American Idol. What else is there to do? One can only text and call in for the winners so many times. As mentioned in other posts (BofA offering illegal credit cards, etc), it all comes down to market share. FOX has done it's homework with the 20-35 age demographic and realizes our attention span is only so long, about that of a gnat. If they draw something out, I zone out. That's why I don't go to movies. It's all about that wonderful thing called instant gratification. I want my news in about 5 minutes or less and try to cram as much news as possible into that. That a way, I can carry on a descent conversation at the watercooler until we can steer the conversation back to Idol. lol |
