We're "failing" as a country because we have lost the greater sense of community and working together for the greater good. It's about what everyman can get for themselves. It's about supposed leaders that cannot allow themselves to be accountable for their actions. It's about a system that rewards short term satisfaction, or an electorate that hangs one or two key issues in deciding a president. And it starts in each and every American home. If you want to see it in action daily, watch rush hour traffic and those that try to get in front of everyone else rather than go with the flow. Never mind that the person they cut off may have to slam the breaks and get rear ended creating a traffic jam for everyone else as long as they get in front.

I read something this week that estimated the cost of the upcoming presidential election cycle @ 1 Billion Dollars ($1,000,000,000). A job that pays 200K per year plus housing and a private jet for four years. A billion dollars, and nothing productive is going to come of it.

We're failing because we're lazy, stupid, fat, and more importantly, too many of us a just plain ignorant.

Oh I could rant a long time on this subject but we'll stop here for now. You need to stop thinking Democrats are out to get Bush, Bush will get himself tangled up. And remember our forefathers had the sense to keep Congress, the courts, and the president from getting too powerful and it works in spite of George's best efforts to the contrary. Legislators make lots of noise, that's because there's 400+ of them and they want to think they're important. At the end of the day there has to be consensus, not idealollogy (spelling impaired tonight).

What do you expect? Bush is every bit as conservative as Kerry is liberal. I'm not a Democrat, but I'm obviously more liberal than most of you on this board. Truthfully, you've nailed it for me. The only time I've ever supported this president was right after 9/11. Almost invariably since then I've disagreed with everything he's done and said. But I should support him anyway? If he ever did anything that was bi-partisan at all, I might. This guy is too conservative, too stubborn, and too convinced that as the President, he's got a license to do whatever he wants without consequence.

If you can find a Republican that can play the middle and at least *LISTEN* when the left has an issue with his policies, I'd support him. I really would. I thought John McCain was going to be that guy until he started playing with Jerry Falwell recently. That's when I lost hope for him.

The same goes for the Democrats. I don't want a hardline liberal in office. I don't want someone who isn't willing to make compromises with the other side. Screw that. I'm tired of party politics. I want someone who, most of the time, plays the middle where the majority of us actually lie politically.

Only the Democrats lie? Please tell me you're smarter than that.

I am talking Rathergate, where a news agency deliberatly put forth forged documents to smear a republican.
Apparently you missed the other news agencies ripping into CBS like a pack of wolves after all this came to light? CBS and Rather lost a lot of credibility with this scandal, and rightfully so. If only George W. Bush had lost as much credibility with his smear campaign of John McCain in the 2000 presidential primaries. I find it ironic that you would be so concerned over smear campaigns and yet still support Bush.

Rep Foley was beaten to death and then had his body hanged on Republicans by the media, forgetting that the dems held onto the info, forgetting that(and dramatically under reporting) that a prominant Democrat Congressman Franks in Massachusetts ran a boy sex ring out of his basement and still remained in office. I am sure some of the facts that are brought up are news to you as the regular news does a disservice to all.
You're right, I hadn't heard of Frank's scandal. I can't comment on the media coverage because I was 13 when that happened, and I really didn't care about Washington politics when I was 13.

According to this link, though, you're seriously exaggerating what Frank was guilty of. It wasn't a "boy sex" ring. I've seen no indication from anything I've read that minors were involved. It would be a hell of an omission to not mention the involvement of minors. Also, the House Ethics committee investigated and found that Frank wasn't involved in the prostitution ring. Frank should certainly have been reprimanded for his actions, and he was. His constituents have had many opportunities since to send him packing, and yet, he's still in office.

CongressionalBadBoys

Foley, on the other hand, was going after minors. He was also going after Congressional pages, which is a serious abuse of his position. If Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky was impeachment-worthy, Foley's actions were even worse. At least Monica was an adult. On top of that, Foley's situation becomes even more scandalous (especially in the eyes of the media) when you consider that he was an outspoken opponent of child pornography, and then here he was, trying to get sex from minors.

From what I've seen thus far, it seems pretty silly that you're putting Frank's scandal on par with Foley's scandal. I've seen nothing to suggest they're in the same league.

First of all, I am smarter than that. What politician does NOT lie!

I am sure you really know what kind of power the president really has. Most of what he wants to do is limited to the approval of senate/congress. Backdooring the president, whether the president is rep/dem or m/f, is wrong. Back in the day, you respected the president, regardless of your opinion of his actions.

I certainly respect the OFFICE of the president; the person on the other hand, is something quite different.

Yep, I have less respect for Clinton than I do Bush, but that probably has something to do with my morals and values.
