I think there are boundaries and "idiot" is not the terms used by Imus. It was wrong, it was in very bad taste, and it should not be on public airways. I don't think he needed to be fired but I don't think this should be swept under the rug by using the "sticks and stones analagy"................ He needs to go to Sirius with the rest of the Sterns.

Having that kind of language and program on the TV is like saying it's ok for someone to pick thier nose at a black tie dinner - just cause they do good things for the community................. no it's not and he should clean up his act before he gets back on the radio and TV.

Personally I wish he would clean up his act some cause I kinda liked him but his brashness really turned me off his program. I wasn't a listener to begin with but that doesn't mean it shoulda been on public airwaves. Ya otta pay for that crap just like ya do Necked News..............

Bubba made a very good point tho................. God I hate race issues.........

There is NO corelation between the war in Iraq and what happened in Blacksburg. There is no one to blame, EXCEPT the shooter. For those blaming society and how we need to change, go ahead and change it. Use other launching pads for your political agendas.
I have to apply the logic that others have used about Iraq and the dead there when they say mow many more people died on the higways of America over a certain period of time than our troops in Iraq.

By the same token more people died in the violence in Iraq in the past couple of days than did in this tragedy.

Doesn't make it right or OK but it's the same kind of logic.

(Well, I know we're getting off topic, but it seems to be what everyone wants to talk about, so here we go. Apologies to the OP for hijacking the thread.)

Hillary probably deserves the shot, but that's not at all what I was getting at. What I was irked about was Tee's comments about the Rutgers women, and the "Oreo President". For awhile, I thought I misunderstood and was thinking I'd back down from my earlier comments. Now, after others have piled on, I don't think I will.

First, let's get the Duke situation out of the way. The woman who wrongly accused these guys should be punished severely. She's done more damage to these men and Duke University that she can ever make up for. As a stripper and single mom, she'll probably never see enough money in her lifetime to in reparations to both these men and the University. She should probably see time in jail for her actions, to tell the truth.

On top of the obvious harms, though, she's done a huge disservice to real victims of rape, because so many will take future rape claims less seriously now after this scandal. She's made it far more likely that a woman will just keep her mouth shut rather than file a report. That is already a big enough problem; this woman has just made it worse. Her actions are disgusting and without defense.

Like I said before, I don't really care so much about taking shots at Hillary over this. I'm sure her meeting with the team is largely motivated by the hope that it will generate positive publicity for her campaign. I am willing to give Hillary the benefit of the doubt to some extent, however. Imus' comments are not limited to being racist, but sexist too. If there is any one person in America that can and should be showing public support for the Rutgers' team, it's the woman who currently has the most realistic shot at being the first female President in our country's history. It shouldn't surprise anyone that Hillary would be the first and/or most vocal public figure to rally to the side of these women.

So anyway, my point here is that Hillary has a link to these women. She's blazing a trail that most women don't travel. She's doing things right now that women are generally discouraged from doing. She's working very hard at it. I'm not asking anyone to agree with her politics, but surely you can admit she's facing a tougher road in her chosen career than the men she's up against. The number of people in this country that won't vote for a woman for that reason only dwarf the number that won't vote for a man for the same reason.

It the same vein, by being collegiate athletes, the Rutgers women are doing things a little differently than most women. They're playing a sport which very few people respect. Many sports fans dislike female athletes already because of Title IX politics. Many others don't care about their athletic accomplishments unless they are hot. Whatever, I'm not trying to change anyone's opinion of Title IX or women's basketball. Just recognize that these women are blazing a tougher path than most and they are working hard to do it.

Now, if someone can tell me where Hillary would have a common tie with the Duke players who were, admittedly, destroyed by the media coverage of their scandal, I'll eat my words.

Finally, would anyone care to defend Tee's obviously racist "Oreo President" comment?

A white person who pretends to be black simply to garner votes. That is MY OPINION of what she has been doing. Bill was often referred to as the first black president, or an Oreo. Hillary will follow in his footsteps, that is MY OPINION.

They had every right to be outraged. The idea that you have to be familiar with any member of the media before you're allowed to be outraged over his/her comments about you is ridiculous. Imus had a nationally syndicated show and he was heard by millions each day. Imus made harmful comments about a group of people that had done nothing at all to deserve it.

Personally, I think the Tennessee women should have been pissed at Imus too. He didn't disrespect them as much as he did Rutgers, but his comments were sexist and lame nonetheless. He brought up the championship game between Rutgers and Tennessee solely to make comments about each team's appearance. In his opinion, the Tennessee women were "cute", and the Rutgers women were "nappy-headed ho's". That was it. No discussion of the game itself, other than saying that Tennessee won.

I'm not getting all bent out of shape about the simple idea of calling someone cute or ugly, but given the context of these comments, it was in very poor taste. If Imus doesn't care for women's basketball, he shouldn't watch it, and he certainly shouldn't make damaging comments about it on the air.

Agreed and had the outrage truly been theirs then you'd have a point I could agree with.

The context was on his show that people listen to and expect him to be a crass prick.

Poor taste... agreed.

Take your own advice. If you don't like what Imus has to say, switch to a different show more to your liking.

Prove to me that the women on this team never used the word "Ho" and define "Nappy" and I might see a point.
