I remember that, too, Deuce. The first time around, we had a Toyota pickup and a Corolla. Loved both. The only place to get service was at the dealership. Nobody else wanted to touch it. Well, service at the dealership is pricey, doncha know. Up here, there are import service garages everywhere - even found one that specialized in old VW's when I had my '92 Passat. Somewhere down there, either in Garden or Dodge, there has to be a shade-tree mechanic, maybe semi-retired that knows those engines inside and out. The only bad thing is that the newer ones need a scope and those are so expensive only the dealerships have them. Sucks.

Is that the same one that you can’t shift the transfer case for the four wheel drive when it gets cold and snows? Yeah, nothing compares to that.

Which makes me wonder where all the Mini's and other imports get serviced here in DC? ---deuce

I have known people that had to literally load their import onto a flatbed truck and haul them to Wichita or other parts to get work done on them. Not very handy when they don't want to run!

I love my Toyota Rav 4. I have owned alot of cars in my life, but my toyota's beat the rest. I liked my FREE GMC pickup too. That was pretty cool.

Maybe because what they tout are the reliable, fuel-efficient cars.

As one of those who had his broken car loaded on a flatbed and taken to Wichita, it was no sweat on my brow since the dealer sent a 530i on the back of the truck coming from Wichita for me to drive while they fixed mine and the maker picked up the tab.

For the life of me I can't understand why someone would live in a place like SW Kansas and not belong to AAA+ or a similar auto club.

I usually do my own wrenchin' too once the warranty's up, but sometimes ya got to get it home to wrench it. That 150 mile towing allowance by AAA+ comes in real handy sometimes.

Mini's have to go to Wichita or Manhatten. Two dealerships under the same name. Baron Mini.

Porche's are the same. There is a porche dealer/shop on the east end of Wichita just off of Kellog.

I drive a '97 Regal GS. I love my supercharged sedan. I got 34mpg on the highway all the way up to Denver when I was heading there to fly to Cali last month. Though on the way home I got significantly less while driving in that nasty thunderstorm we got on 04/21/07.

Say what you want about Consumer Reports. The may tout to imports but they have reason to. Without comprehensive maintenance on Domestic cars, they won't last more tha 200k miles. My dad's old van. a '92 Mazda MPV sounded like a propeller plane and the paint was chipping away but it was still smoother running and had better fuel mileage with 230k miles on it than most Domestic's have at 75k miles.

Japanese cars have been and will continue to be better than American cars. Why? They have the will to make sturdy, good looking, and long lasting vehicles that are economically sound while simultaneously being suprisingly powerful for running on rice . jk on the last bit.
