| You know, that's one thing I've never understood. When I was looking at buying a new car last year, I looked at how much of the car was assembled and such here in the USA. The Ford Fusion, made in Mexico. While assembled in Kansas, most of the Chevy Malibu was made in Mexico and Canada. Meanwhile the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord contained more American parts and were assembled in I think Alabama. So, really what is considered buying American? |

| Just so you know, the vehicle I take into battle is Made in the USA. Its not pretty and its not comfortable, but it is sturdy and it gets the job done. Of course, my other car is a Honda. ![]()

| The hubby and I have had a running disagreement over vehicles. I buy what I want since I pay for it. He does the same. He drives a Ford. My newest car is a VW. I've had it about 8 months and he's already decided he'll buy VW for his next car. My VW was assembled in the US. So technically, it's a foreign car just because the home office is in Germany? Doesn't make sense, but the technology is German and that surpasses American right now, especially with $3.50 gas. His car gets close to the same gas mileage as mine, but is doggie on the road. Ya have to give up something with an American label. (but ya'all know my second car is my beloved Ford pickup - no comments on the gas mileage - it hasn't moved in 2 weeks. Nothin' compares to Ford pickups. Haven't driven the new Toyota yet, but would probably never buy one considering the price)

| The only thing that the domestics have going for them, which could be part of the problem, is the extensive dealer network. I recently owned a 2002 Nissan Maxima. I was traveling to visit little sis at KSU when the thing broke down on a Saturday morning in Great Bend. The GM dealer there said no one in Great Bend would touch it and that I needed to cripple it into Salina. I showed up at Salina and they said that their Nissan service was closed so I needed to go further up the road to Manhattan. Finally arrived in Manhattan where they fixed the problem, but I had to leave it there until the part got in. I hopefully, won't have that problem in my Pontiac! There's multiple dealerships everywhere even in small towns, not just in the big cities. Which makes me wonder where all the Mini's and other imports get serviced here in DC? They treated my baby Maxima like the black plaque. |
