| I thought they were illegal now??? Of course, in DC what is not illegal??? Army, I would not allow one to be very close to my kid! These dogs were bred for fighting, and no matter how great a pet each owner says they are, they are still very unpredictable and violent at the snap of a finger!! I would call the City and check on the ordinance. |

| I understood that they were not illegal, but needed to be registered with the city. Good Question. Somebody on the board has the accurate answer. ![]()

| my daughter has two, and they have to be in a pen,if i'm right it has to be a certain size, depend on how many you have, you have to have some kind of house insurance on them, they have to be register with the city, have all their shots current, and the back yard has to be i think like six feet in size and it has to me mark, beward of dog, and daughter told me that the chip that you get from the city you can't get no more, dog not allowed in city limits, of the city finds out they take it and they will fine you.but you can't get the chips no more had to get them two years ago.

| I think the reason pit bulls have been targeted is 2 reasons. 1. as jackknife stated. Poor excuse for owners. 2. Potential to kill. Even under good owners. Too many incidents with pit bulls with owners that have said their dogs would never bite. I've always said my dogs would never bite because they are so good natured and well behaved, but I have seen them react totally out of character and I realize even the best manor dogs can react unpredictably under the right circumstances. In my opinion, aside from being completely isolated from all strangers, you can never guarantee a dog won't attack. The problem is that there will always be a chance the dog could get loose, and a pit bull has the potential to do great harm in a short time. I'd love to own a mountain lion but I know better.

| Nothing better than people who do not own "aggressive" type dogs, never trained dogs, and base all their experience on "a friend said" or fixed statistics to base their 100% factual opinion that because a dog is a certain breed it is dangerous. Only dogs I know that as a breed, and EVERY one of them of this breed are vicious killers, are Caucasion Mountain dogs. Pit-bull BREEDS are no more dangerous than any other medium sized dog. They are no more vicious AS A BREED than any other dog. While they were originally bred as fighting dogs, Swiss Mountain Dogs were bred to be sled and wagon pullers but you do not see them running around and grabbing wagons. Pekinese were bred to attack people that came to close to their master. Chows, Shar-Pe's, English Bulldogs, Mastiffs, Dobermans, Great Danes, Greyhounds........etc. were all bred to kill or fight. The ordinance is designed not so much to ban a breed of dog (unless you have papers showing 4 generations of the blood line you cannot garuntee that a dog is a certain breed) but is and was designed to stop people from raising vicious dogs since the majority of them were pit-bull type dogs. If the majority of the vicious dogs in town were Rottwieller type dogs, the ordinance would have been aimed at them. I actually agree with the ordinance because it has done what it was designed to do and cut down on these unwanted animals. I will appologize ahead of time if I come across as crass or assholish but it always bothers me when people judge with a broad brush. Most vicious dog I ever trained.....Miniature Schnauzer.
