| I don't mean that they shouldn't care. I just mean it is certainly harder to care when you don't have any monetary incentive. I'm not saying that people have have the right to work crappy when their pay is crappy but I am saying that if the company stood behind them a little more then they might work harder for the company. Who knows though? Chicken? Egg? |

| I know this probably does not have anything to do with a dirty store or lack of bags in the produce department, but I do know that these people in our Walmart can only do so much. The management pushes them so hard to do some things which takes time away from the other things that need to be done. I agree that customer service should be MUCH better, but I try not to blame the "local" help when I know alot of the "orders" comes from the big wigs in Arkansas. For example does anybody remember last year some time when shopping in walmart and it seemed to be 90 degrees inside the store? Well I found out that the thermostat for our store is in Arkansas. They set it for their weather not ours!!! I think that is rediculas and I told them so. |

| You know what sucks all around? That Wal Mart doesn't seem to have much competition there. I still won't go to the Wally's up here because of all the crap - people that don't speak English, parents that let their kids run wild, clerks that evidently don't care, etc., etc., etc. I have the luxury of being able to spend my dollars elsewhere. Like Army mentioned, we have HyVee, Apple Markets and a bunch of other really good ones. Even the Costco has some very good produce buys - and their cakes are yummy!! One of the best places to shop up here (sorry, not groceries) is the Nordstrom in Oak Park Mall. As expensive as it is in there, you'd think the staff would be snooty. I've found it to be the absolute best when it comes to customer service. They fall all over themselves to help customers. It's worth a few more bucks to me to be treated like royalty for a few hours once or twice a year!

| That is because consumers do not support their local, home owned businesses, and they are forced to go out of business. That leaves only Walmart, and eventually you are forced to shop there because there is no where else to go! |

| Well, when I lived back there, I didn't feel that I had a lot of choice in the matter. The home-owned business was higher-priced and service wasn't such an issue then. Now that they have the corner on the market there, they can behave any old way they want to.

| Quality and Service versus Cheap and You Are On Your Own! As a business owner, nothing makes me madder than having someone buy a cheap product at Walmart or somewhere else, then wanting advice or service from me for free, because Walmart cannot supply it! ![]() ![]() |

| We're all about price and convenience. Quality went out in the 70's. Our local businesses would not be threatened by Wal*Marts if they knew their customers. Wal*Marts knows what people want and they know most local businesses only think they know. Ever wounder how a convenient store survives when they put one every 4 blocks? Wal*Marts kills local business because they know how to target the clientèle. I can go to Wal*Mart and buy everything from my groceries to clothes to tools and garden supplies, and at the lowest price in town. I'm not saying our local businesses should sell every thing or try to compete with Wal*Marts buying power, but there are ways to be competitive and survive. I'd much rather do business with local established businesses but only when its not an inconvenience. When downtown dodge had its Gambles, Eccles(sp), Radio Shack, Walgreen's it was a busy place. The same held true for the Mall. Once the convenience is gone business slows down. When business slows down prices go up. People see a store like Wal*Mart with every thing they need AND extremely lower prices and the rest is history. In my opinion we need a downtown dodge committee that knows what people want. You put a grocery store, hardware, lawn & garden, clothing, sports, jewelry and restaurants downtown or in the mall and Wal*Marts would close.

| Visit to Walmart I'd like to know what the deal is with Walmart always having the checkouts staffed at one end of the store. Have you ever tried to go to Walmart over the noon hour? No matter which end of the parking lot you choose it seems like you always end up have to go to the opposite end of the store to check out. And they typically only have 3 or 4 check outs open to top it off. I am sure it is some marketing ploy to get shoppers to walk throughout the store to spend more money however, if I am going to one particular side of the store for one particular item on my lunch hour it would sure be nice to be able to go in and out. Guess I could start using those stupid self check things but they don't work half the time and the employees that have to come over and clear things are always less than helpful and downright pissy at times. UGH! Have tried Alco as a solution however they never seem to have what I am looking for and therefore I end up back at the mad house called Walmart!!! Hey Eric Estes, if your reading this maybe you should consider your next venture with Target instead of another fast food establishment. xt |
