U.S. PARK POLICE RULES THAT SUBSTANCE LEFT AT THE VIETNAM VETERANS MEMORIAL IS VANDALISM

National Park Service Continues Cleanup Efforts

Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Park Police ruled today that the oily substance spread on sections of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and on the paving stones was an act of vandalism. Park Police spokesman Sgt. Robert Lachance stressed that the investigation is ongoing and would not offer further comment.

The National Park Service continues working to identify and remove the substance. Because it is not yet known what was spread on The Wall and paving stones, the National Park Service's (NPS) Preservation and Maintenance Staff is working with the most gentle of techniques to ensure the substance's removal, but also to ensure that the substance is not pushed into the granite stonework or grouting.

“We believe the American public would want the NPS to do the preservation and restoration work properly and not to move in a hasty manner,” said NPS spokesman Bill Line. “If the preservation work takes another week or two or more, it is more important to perform the removal properly than to move quickly and thus risk long-term damage.”

NPS urges concerned citizens to be patient with the cleanup and investigative work.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund is continuing to monitor the situation and has offered its help to both NPS and the Park Police. It has contacted the stoneworkers who work on The Wall to get their expert advice.

“We deplore this act of vandalism on one of America’s sacred places,” said Memorial Fund Founder and President Jan C. Scruggs.

I can't even imagine what kind of thrill anyone would get by doing this? What kind of sickos would dishonor those who's names are on that wall, let alone any Vet that is still alive! Such as myself and many others who are here in Dodge City? Why did these cowards not find a group of Vets that are still here, and try and do this in front of them? Cowards is what they are! Sneaking around in the night to defile this sacred monument of the men and women who gave everything INCLUDING they're lives, to protect and serve this country! While cowards like these hide and do acts such as this. I can just imagine that those who did this vile act, don't work, instead they just steal whatever they can get. Are in some kind of a PATHETIC gang that thinks that they are something SPECIAL, when in fact they are the farthest thing from this. They are nothing more than parasites on the citizens of this country and should be treated as such! Exterminated, just as any other parasite who takes from others and not give one thing back except the shit that they are! Any GANG, including those pathetic excuses we have here in Dodge have no honor at all, only dishonor and nothing more. If these gangs ever came up against of military personnel or Vets, they would soon know just how worthless they really are, and would be treated as any enemy of this country has already been treated! The exception to this, is that most of the enemies we have fought, did so with honor and a sense of duty. None of these little pukes who are "gang members" deserve to even be thought of in the same sense as the enemies we fought! Those we had to fight, were so much better and can't be included with these little slime balls at all! Those we had to fight, did so with the honor of being a soldier and an equal on the battle fields! No, I am not talking about any terrorists at all. Terrorists are lower than whale shit! Cowards all! Just like any of the gang members that stink up this country and its cities and towns!
The one thing that I do know for sure, is that if any gang member came up against a member of our armed forces or the VETS of this country they would be able to do just one thing.! And that is "CRY LIKE A BABY" and wet and defecate all over themselves. For they would soon see just how completely inadequate they really are when coming up against real MEN AND WOMEN! They would turn and run for fear of what would happen to them if any of us caught them! All these jerks can do, is congregate around our schools and strut the stuff they think they have, and do not have at all. Hoping, that someone will notice them, and will be in awe of them. I can just imagine that those in these schools are not AWED by them at all, and the students would not even give them the time of day! When faced with real men and women, they have, and will always, turn tail and run! Not wanting to find out what COULD happen to them if caught by those of HONOR! Especially caught in the act of defiling this wall! They really don't ever want to find out!
You know, cleaning our cities and towns of these pathetic groups would be construed as a form of FUN for some vets!!!! HMMMMM? I have JUST GOT TO QUIT THOSE THOUGHTS!!! LOLOL HEY, just might be able to feel USEFUL again!!!! Hm?

I just hope they can clean it without ruining it. It's an awesome memorial. Brought me to tears. By far the most memorable part of my visit that year. Now that oldest sonny-boy lives there and will likely be getting married there (if there is a God in heaven), trips will be more frequent, but I don't think I ever want to visit the memorial again. It was way too moving. Other monuments had historical meaning, but this one was really hard on me.

You know...the Vietnam memorial is breathtaking...but for me the two things that stuck in my mind the most was Arlington Cemetery (just the sheer SIZE of it and knowing all of those people died for me and my family) and the tomb of the Unknowns Soldiers and the dedication of those that guard it. I could sit there all day and watch them do what they do.

Yeah, I agree - those are all awesome as well. It's just that the Vietnam Memorial was so hard on me emotionally. And I can't tell you why. I had no family members (that I knew of) on the wall, I knew a couple of names, but didn't know them personally. Maybe it was just the sight of the black marble. So cold and final. Whatever it was, I'll never forget it. The other memorials are great - and I love seeing them and the obvious care they receive. It's really funny....you hear hushed voices in church all the time. But it's just not so expected outside - and only hushed voices are heard on the mall in Washington. Except for the 4th of July parade!
