While researching for Allen Greenspan's comment saying Clinton was the best "REPUBLICAN" president ever. I Googled and still haven't found the statement but I won"t give up. Amazon had an ad of this book on the Google page. I checked out the comments and found them very interesting. This entry is IN the first review. I highlighted it because I found it compelling.

Perhaps this will spur action ensuring that enlisted servicemen and women will no longer need welfare to make ends meet while billions are funneled to defense contractors? My only complaint is the horrendous job of proofreading and copy-editing this book received (none?). Otherwise, this deserves to be on the bestseller list.

I’m sorry, President Clinton, I didn’t mean to say that. But I must say, I had to follow an awful lot of your particular guidelines and found them very compatible with my own.

Wasn't Bill sort of forced to sign the Welfare reform act. It was pushed through by the Republican Congress. He vetoed the 1st two. It pissed his party off also. He also enacted the largest tax increase in the history of the U.S.....no a very conservative side at all.

There was actually a surplus a couple of years under Clinton because of his taxes. A surplus means that he had a budget, taxed the dog shit out of everyone and had extra money. That extra money was YOUR money and MY money that the gov't takes from you and thinks that THEY know how to spend it better than YOU do or I do. He also sent the country into a recession with his tax policies.

I don't know about any of that, I just thought it was a curious comment from a Republican about a Democrat.

Like Hedda, I had the same program on, not paying that much attention and that statement was made and I says to myself......"Did he just say what I thought he said."

Clinton's trouble with China began before his re-election in 1996. To defeat the Republicans, the Democratic party needed a quick infusion of cash to pay for campaign ads. Clinton turned to his Chinese connection, old friends Johnny Chung, John Huang, and Charlie Trie. They headed a shadowy cast of characters that funneled millions of dollars into democratic campaign coffers.

Bill Clinton took contributions he knew came from China, and played another angle as well. US companies wanted to sell China military technology, but the sales were prohibited by law. Economic sanctions for the Tiananmen square massacre and restrictions on technology exports prevented these companies from selling China the armaments they wanted.

In return for campaign contributions, the President shifted regulation of technology exports from the State Department to the free-wheeling Commerce department. The administration also relaxed export controls and allowed corporations to decide if their technology transfers were legal or not. When easing restrictions wasn't enough, Clinton signed waivers that simply circumvented the law. The President's waivers allowed the export of machine tools, defense electronics, and even a communications system for the Chinese Air Force.
