Unfortunately, it's legal to do it and a lot of companies are doing it now. Younger workers generally work for less, the benefits are usually cheaper for the younger guys. The only thing is, companies have to be very careful about the reasons for the separation or they'll get sued. Maybe that's what needs to happen if they can prove why they were fired.

I had heard they laid off close to 100 pople, all "blue" hats or long termers. This is more than restructuring, something else is going on. I have seen a larg number of Guatamalins (sic) lately............

No matter what you think about the plant you've got to admit they seem to have a crystal ball when it comes to knowing what to do.

Oklahoma is now starting to feel the results of their new immigration law, and it's putting the hurts to those businesses that were abUSING illegal immigrants. The economy is slowing down because immigrants, both legal and illegal, are leaving the state. Businesses that had relied on immigrant workers are having problems finding replacements.

I think Cargil knows this is eventually going to happen here as well and are already taking the steps to avoid the problems in Oklahoma. I also think the other businesses should take the hint. Those businesses that have built their success around immigrants better prepare to change or fail.

Of course those businesses that are failing are blaming it on Oklahoma Lawmakers not the fact that they chose to base their survival off immigrants.

Sounds like big business screwing the American worker... again.

As long as they can still ship that meat over seas they don't have to worry if the people they are laying off can afford to buy the food they produce.

But it's all for profit of the company and those stock holders so it's OK.

It's the American way WOrdy...SOME would call that capitalism and if the companies stock is doing that well then the people that work there would be wise to buy some of that stock (which last time I checked buying stocks and mutual funds was available to everyone) then they would benefit from the stock profit.

Yes indeed...buy stock.

Make the house payment and feed the kids OR buy stock in the company that screws you over just HOPING it'll go up enough that someone else can benefit from it...

You have me confused Detector. Cargill is laying off legal American workers, and replacing them with imports. At least that is what I am hearing and reading.

Or drive a less expensive car, cut down on smoking, eating out, budget your money and buy stock.

Ever see the people that head to the quick shops when they get paid and buy massive amounts of lottery tickets...thinking they will hit it big and retire...just think if those people would just invest all of that money weekly.

I'm not saying I like it, now that it's been said legal workers, but only that Cargill knows how to say in business. Anticipating a possible drop in the immigrant employee pool they are preparing. I do think our local businesses that have been feeding off these immigrants will crash hard unless they prepare as well.

I wonder how many of the LEGAL laid off workers will get any assistance from SRS, the County, or the City??? Probably none, because the ILLEGALS have used it all up!!
