| Actually I'm not even sure if Cargill stock is public. BUT if someone worked there twenty years and just put $50.00 each pay period in an investment plan that avg'd 10% they would have enough to pay cash for a house or buy lots of lottery tickets and cigs...

| Another Rumor Related to Cargill & National I was at the TOC games yesterday & overheard a parent & a teacher talking about how usd443 does what the plants tell them to do. School will never be called off due to weather unless the plants close. They've told the district not to close unless they do. Teachers & principals are supposed to leave the plant's business office alone because the district doesn't want to upset them. The teacher said that a certain person at the Administration Building stated that the plants told them that usd443 owes them because if they cut & run, the schools would be out of business. I know this is an overheard rumor, but it real makes me angry if it is true. Schools shouldn't have to bow down like this. |

| That is not the first time I have heard that the schools won't be let out due to the weather because the plants don't want them to. I think that is a bunch of ![]()

| But as long as they pay large amounts of money to the community, either in taxes or other benefits, they can... and will. When I was there, the deal was if the schools shut down due to weather, a lot of workers didn't show up for work because they had little ones at home. The thought was (from the teacher's side) that they'd become nothing more valuable to the community than day care, which is absolutely right. In order for the teachers to give a crap about what they teach, the parents have to support them and not treat them as glorified babysitters. I wish somebody in the School District would grow some balls and challenge the packing plants. They can't shut down over night. They could over a year, but by then the school district would have (hopefully) right-sized, too. It would definitely suck for a while, but better in the long run. I really have a problem with the school district bowing down to any special interest group, no matter who it is.
