If you eat meat then you need the plants no matter where they are in business. they wouldnt hire the illegals if the local people didnt think they were to good to work there but hey if you dont want to work for 16.00 on hr as maintenance do not work there.

Someone said they are going to import cheap labor to replace the illegals is a retarded statement and based on that you have absolutely no idea what goes on there in the hiring and pay practices. Not only do they pay the prevailing wages for that field of work they pay above the going rate. Cargill pays more than National Beef thats for sure.

The work there is very hard to do and most caucasions think they are to good to even apply and work along side the mexicans there when in fact that dont have the nuts and to even handle 1 week of that labor.

This isnt the first time the plant has flushed out the ILLEGALS from the workforce and it wont be last.

In the 80s it was the asians who were ruining this town and working at the plants taking OUR JOBS (the same jobs most of oyu wouldnt even think about doing remember you were to good to apply) then the 90s it was mexicans were taking our jobs (the same ones you were to good to apply for) in the 2000s it has been the mexicans hating the fact that the guatamaleans (sp) were taking their jobs and the caucasions were complaining that the mexicans are taking their jobs and the cycle is not ending there now the rumor is PRs are replacing the illegals and taking their jobs and now it it just another race of people for the ones who think they are to good to apply and work there but they do eat meat (the same meat that comes from the plant that they are complaining about) to complain about.

If most ppl in this town would apply and stay there at the plant they wouldnt be hiring outside the states and looking for workers outside the town to work there and do the jobs every single one of us are capable of doing. Illegal or not they apply and do the work there and help put food on your table. The state the gov. and city all make money off what ever name they are using they still get taxed regardless of what name they bought to work there so we are losing money off them working in Dodge City.

For the record im white and work there 91-93 as a chuck boner 2001-04 as maintenance (which for the record also they only hire english speaking workers for that job because they have an english only rule on the radio)

Like it or not they do the DIRTY work most of you look down on and wont do.

Well thats an interesting take on it, now let me give my view. It may explain why I feel the way I do.

First off, I've also worked at both plants plus I've been in the military. I can honestly say boot camp has nothing on working the kill floor. In the military you are treated a lot like you are treated at the packing plant. The military does this to train you to obey orders without question. I think the idea is the same at the plants.

Working at the plant was hard nasty filthy work but I did it long enough to realize they don't pay enough. I'm not surprised our plants are relative in pay to other plants considering these plants are well known for their hiring of illegals, but I have worked at other production plants and they not only paid better, but better benefits as well.

It has nothing to do with us "Caucasians" not willing to do the work and everything to do with Americans not willing to do a crappy job for crappy pay and treatment. Illegals, and imports make good packing plant workers because they don't complain about pay or conditions like us Americans.

In short, I had no problem doing the job. The problem I had was doing it for the price. I believe they should be paid more for that type of dangerous work.

Actually right now the U.S. has virtually no unemployment. It's very low and I believe that those who aren't working do not want to work. SW KS is even lower. As you drive through Dodge or look in the globe look at all of the places that are hiring. Almost EVERYONE is hiring. Some places are hurting so bad for employees that they are hiring back the idiots they fired (Walmart) and it SHOWS. Are Puerto Ricans NOT U.S. Citizens? First we don't like the illegals because they are well.....illegal. Then there is talk of bringing in U.S. Citizens (Puerto Rican's) to work. Would we have a problem if they were bringing in an influx of black people to work? How about Asian citizens..or Native Americans? What would make everyone happy..perhaps a town of nothing but White Americans?

I do understand what you're saying and my judgment may be premature, only time will tell, I'm just thinking why would these plants choose to import from Puerto Rico rather than Texas or Louisiana where there are many people in need of a job? I think there is more to it than they just can't find anyone in the 48 states that wants a job.

Don't try and make this a race issue, like with the illegals from south of the boarder, because its not. I'm talking about the type of people, be them black, white, red or yellow, that are willing to come by the bus load to southwest Kansas. I have no problem with Mexicans. I do have a problem with the type of Mexicans, Indians, Caucasians, Blacks or Asians that are willing to except such a move.

Just like what we have now, most were looking for a quick way out of town in the first place. If you know what I mean. By the very nature of things I highly doubt they were the pillars of the community.

I am happy to see the packinghouses cleaning house on illegals. I just would have felt better knowing it was a choice rather than fear, but hey! I will reserve my judgment until I've met them first hand and I'm only speaking from what I've been told. I just don't put much faith in our plants choices. They've never looked out for us before so I don't expect them to now.

They shouldnt have to recruit if the same ppl who are without a job complain that there are not any jobs because the mexicans or illegals (doesnt matter how you catagorize them) are taking their jobs. They have just as good a chance of getting the same jobs as the immigrants.

The immigrants, as i am going call them now, have proven their own self worth by staying and keeping the same job for yrs and yrs.

In a third world country hard laborous work is a way of life and the work at the plants is not as hard as working construction in mexico or where ever.

Cargill, National and Tyson all cater to those type of ppl and the pay is really good regardless of what anyone says.

When Hoover Dam was being constructed the company hired to build the dam would only hire Native Americans for their almost non existant fear of heighths and today most high rise construction company prefer to hire Natives and immigrants for their lack of fear to work in high places and since unions run rampant in almost all labor job fields they get pretty good pay, so they are not being hired as cheap labor and like it or not illegal or illegal the pay is the same. Same goes for the packing plants and how they choose to hire and who they hire if you go in and prove you can and will do the job and keep the job then they wouldnt have to look to other races or race of ppl to fill what everyone in dodge who doesnt work can do.

As for the pay lets take maintenance at level 8 your pay is above 16.00 not including extra for being a lead man you work 4 days a week 12 hour shifts which is 40hours a week plus 8 hours OT which equals oout to $640 regular pay and $192 OT pay which equals to $832 a week times 52 weeks equals to $43264 a yr and that sounds pretty good to me all you have to do is apply and its all yours simple as that.

If you dont want them bringing the illegals the immigrants and such apply get the job and that is one less they cant hire
