I have a different view of the situation.

I was here back in the 70's and if memory serves me right I don't remember any employment problem. Back then the places to work were Crustbuster, Speedking JAG and a few other manufactures I can't remember right now. These place employed lots of people and paid well, th difference was they hired locally not imports. Dodge City was growing at a steady pace but the town was still clean.

When the packinghouses came it employed locals and things were pretty good but Americans have that terrible idea that they should be paid well for hard dangerous work. Its not that Americans, not just Whites, don't want to work. Its that Americans tend to challenge an employer when working pay don't fit working conditions. Imports are use to hard dangerous work for little pay. That is the real deal here.

Cheap labor. Workers who are willing to do hard work for little pay and not complain. Illegals fit like a glove. They don't dare complain from fear of being deported. There are many states with out of work Americans that could be brought to town, but then it would only be a matter of time before they realize the pay don't compensate for the work.

By the way I seen an ad on TV the other day for National. Starting pay is $11 which is a long ways from $16.

Take the packing plant away, and Dodge will be what it was in 75. Nada. There won't even be a Super Wal Mart here. You would also take away A LOT of the social problems, the fact that we need a gazillion translators in the school district, the backed up courts, lots of accidents with uninsured motorist, a school district that is below average in every category measurable, crime that is out of control...on and on....I would gladly rather give up having a Walmart here and driving to Garden City in order to have a safer, cleaner city....

I remember how the town was before the packers came, and I LIKED IT!!! That was the main reason that I came to DC and stayed here! A nice, quiet, little town!!

I didn't say I wouldn't like it "cleaner". Just for the record.

YOU who think that this town would continue to grow are wrong. There are many, many prime examples of this exact situation in this state and others around.

I am not saying that it would be nothing. I do not think it would be much of a town. Hell, it isn't much of one now.

I'm thinking with the casino coming this town will grow quite a bit with or without the packing plants.

If the packing plants were not here Dodge may not have the money flowing through it or..out of it in the present case but it would still exist because of the history. It would be smaller but it wouldn't have all the social problems the packing plants bring. I bet if you would take a poll/survey of the citizens that have been here a long time they would overwhelming like it as it were before. The only thing the packing plants brought to the town was more money. That will come with the casino. In return for the money we get a crappy Walmart, social problems that we can't solve, poison water, pink and purple houses, property you can't sell, higher taxes, a horrid school district and so on and so on...it's NOT worth it.

Social problems we cant solve! Come on where do you get that from?

Regardless of whether we had them or not the "social" problems would still exist. Why? Because social=society=us, them you me. We are Social we are the society and we cant go around looking for something to blame for social problems.

Wal Mart is here because of them not the plants. Excel didnt build Wal-Mart. National Beef didnt build Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart built it here because of the midwestern appeal to the farmers and middle to low class that make up most of our demographics. Wal-Mart just so happens to be the the place that is associated with minorities and lower class because of its price appeal thats all. It has nothing to do with the plants.

It is ok for lets say Holcomb (sp) to have Tyson foods because it isnt here right? It is ok for Liberal to have National Beef there because it isnt here right? It is ok to walk into a store such as Dillons or Wal-Mart and buy that 5lb chub of hamburger or those steaks cause you like meat but it isnt ok to have the plants that produce the product you intend to buy for your week-end cook-out in your town.

You know the problems with society and how things are turning out falls all back on us. If we didnt allow schools to remove corporal punishment I do not believe that school problems wouldnt exist to the extent they are today. If parents could rule with an iron fist once again without fear of a social worker telling their kids "No your parents cant discipline you anymore, tell us if they do its abuse' BS then youth problems wouldnt be this extreme and lax as they are.

The plants are here for JOBS to give the ones who may or may not have had an oppurtunity to succeed in school or cant afford a college education a place to be to make money and move on with their lives. They have an open door policy for everyone there not just the illegals and immigrants we all have the same the choice to work there just as they do.

We cant complain about them working there and being here if we dont go out and take the jobs ourselves. The more jobs we take the less they have. Plain and simple. We arent above that field of work. So what you have to do a little hard work dammit i hate that but you get paid for it. If most people would quit thinking that they are above the plants and think they are worth more than they really are, then we can start eliminating there chances of survival in Dodge City.

Really come on people the Casino is not going to generate that amount of money to dent what the Plants bring to the table. Without the plants Dodge City would fade away. They have been here to long to not think that.

I doubt i made any points. But i tried
