It's not about being closed minded. It's about not wanting you look at someone with a big ring sticking out of their nose or lip or wherever people shove the metal. The bottom line is that it is self mutilation. You can tap dance around it, change the name to benefit your own opinion but it is what it is. Shrinks have written papers on why people do this....(attention getting being one of them and low self esteem being another reason). But why a person does it is not for me to argue. In my opinion it's a choice you have the right to make...but I also have the choice to NOT have someone with things protruding unnaturally from their face wait on me at applebees or whatever. tat2me82 I must have given the wrong impression. Myself, I don't look down or think any less of people who choose to express themselves through body-art. Tattoo or other wise. I was just trying to point out that there are a lot of people that do.

If I was a business owner it would be my responsibility to consider the consequences of having an employee that could offend my patrons. Its just good business.

Society still stereotypes body art. In the movies we MIGHT see a "good guy" with a single tattoo on the shoulder or arm, but when you see a character with tattoo sleeves or facial piercings you can bet its the "bad guy." We haven't come as far as you might think in excepting this form of self-expression.

I was simply trying to point out that knowing having a multitude of tattoos or piercings DOES cripple your chances in life, why would someone do it any way? Being successful in life is tough enough as it is.

I've been here going on 15 years and while it does seem I've seen one of the doctors with a tattoo, I can't begin to remember who it was or if it was a doctor or not.

I've never seen a doctor with visible piercings.

On a side note: Sometimes what I post can seem blunt or insensitive to some, but its because I like to think I'm posting to friends. Know that my posts are never meant to intentionally offend anyone. You don't have to agree or even like them, just know they are my honest sincere opinions. Nothing more.

That's kind of what I was trying to say Detector but you articulate the point better than I do. I'm all about self expression also. I would LOVE to wear some politically controversial shirts around but I can't due to my job. It's a give and take where self expression meets conformity/reality.
