Did anyone go see this movie? I had seen the previews, inserted as commercials during Harry Potter movies, and had thought I would watch it. Now it's all over the media that it's a anti-Christian movie, and the author makes no bones that all his books and movies are designed to "Kill God."

As far as the movie I say no big deal. I won't go see it, but It's not like it's the first anti-Christian fanatic to make one. What really pisses me off is what happened to all this media BEFORE the movie hit the screen? How many people wouldn't have gone to see this movie had they known the agenda behind it? I for one wouldn't have.

Is it because the media was afraid of possible law suits had they brought it to the publics attention before it's release? I'm also a bit pissed that it was passed off as "the next harry Potter" movie.

Not sure where you were looking but I've seen this information for the last 6 months.

The more "controvercial" parts of the book were toned down for the movie.

I'm going to see it because it's got Nicole Kidman in it.

I’ve heard some discussion about this and the movie in itself isn’t supposed to be such a big deal. There is a problem beyond the movie and that is the encouragement of young folks to read the books where the real anti-Christian message is conveyed.

And what better way to push that message to the children than to teach it in school. Scholastic.com offers lesson plans to make that easy.

The "super christians' bitched and moaned about Harry Potter also. Some even went so far as to get it banned from some high schools despite it being a great book. The bottom line is if the book might question what the moral majority believes in then they want to censor the book. IN my opinion this isn't much different than what the Taliban does.

I don't know if it is anti-christian or anti orginized religion. The religious groups can't have it both ways.........they had "The Passion". I also knew about the content and basic message of this movie about 6 months ago, so it isn't knew.

I don't mind a book or movie that happens to offend the fanatics, as long as that was not the purpose, but I put this one on the shelf with Fahrenheit 911.

Army, our society has moved to the position of not allowing religion to be taught in public schools. With that being the case we should also not allow public schools to teach an anti-religion message either. If the schools are going to only encourage one side of the religion issue then it really isn’t much different than what the Taliban does. The author, Philip Pullman, makes no bones about his agenda.

"My books are about killing God," British author Phillip Pullman told the Sydney Morning Herald in 2003. Pullman's first children's novel in a trilogy, The Golden Compass, was adapted into film, and will be in theaters Dec. 7, starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig.

"I've been surprised by how little criticism I've got. Harry Potter's been taking all the flak," Pullman said. "I'm a great fan of J.K. Rowling, but the people - mainly from America's Bible belt - who complain that Harry Potter promotes Satanism or witchcraft obviously haven't got enough in their lives. Meanwhile, I've been flying under the radar, saying things that are far more subversive than anything poor old Harry has said."

I have read all three of these books and in my opinion, the only was they could be conveyed as anti- religious is if you had that mindset before even cracking the first book. I thought they were very entertaining, although I'm not real easily offended by symbolism. Cant wait to see the movie if the ice storm ever lets up...

I haven't read the book yet but I can tell you that the "Harry Potter" series was not "anti" religion nor had an anti religion message but the "super christians" (term I like to use, don't mean to offend anyone) wanted it removed in some schools because it contained witchcraft which they didn't want their kids to be exposed to.

Regardless of the author's agenda the book should be judged on it's content. If it's anti christian then that's wrong to be in the school. If there was a book in the school that was anti witchcraft do you think the Christians would want it removed?
