Oh, dear, thanks for the vote of confidence, but I'm really not full of auto-related claims experience. A lot of factors go into rate-making. One is zip code of where the car's parked. That looks at crime. Another is the age/experience of the average driver. That looks at severity of claims. Still another looks at finances of the policyholder to tell them which they can expect to put more time/money in to service the policy (and collect the premium). It's all spelled out in the underwriting guide. A sum below a certain amount and you're automatically put in the higher-rated company.

I've always thought that insurance consumers just being aware of what makes up their rates, whether home or auto, will make a difference in how they choose to live their life.

Redlining has been a bad word for a long time, yet some insurors still do it. They just call it by a different name. That's when you have a hard time buying insurance if you live in a certain neighborhood. Or drive a certain car. Or have more than 2 traffic accidents in a certain period of time. The only thing is, if the driver doesn't carry insurance and is found to be responsible for damages, that information is never entered into the database, so any insurance he/she applies for in the future will not show the wreck. They could probably buy a less expensive policy. OK, kiddies, that's it for today!

I took my flu and pneumonia shots, but I am sicker than a dog with the flu. Every bone in my body aches. Hubby says I have to go downstairs to watch Boston Legal on the big screen. I'm not sure Boston Legal is that important tonite - will somebunny tell me what happens?

I wasn't exactly implying that you knew about the auto insurance business. The point I was making was that you insurance types know your numbers and statistics before writing policies.

OK Everyone - let's try something different that is still on-subject -

What can we do about our skill-challenged drivers who consistently drive on the wrong side of the road and park against the flow of traffic, rather than take the time to turn around. To our PD members, doesn't that qualify for a traffic violation.

Second, how about blocking the sidewalks and causing pedestrians (including children) to walk in the street. Doesn't that also qualify for a ticket.

You can find both of these violations on almost any alpha or numberic street within four blocks.

Safety is the issue. I believe every violator should be ticketed, regardless of who they are.

I don't see much of that up here. Most of the driveways are clear and the sidewalks aren't blocked, either. If you're talking about the folks that also park on their lawns, I think it's simply that they don't know better. Those are probably the questions on their drivers test that they missed.....

Bubba if you can find anywhere in any of my replies on here that I said INSURANCE DOES NOT BELONG then ill dance naked with the wyatt earp statue at lunch hour wearing only socks a straw hat and sea shell nipple covers.

I would not be thinking as I lay in the hospital and my child in surgery if "Gee do they have insurance? I wonder........."

I would be wondering "Damn it how could I have been so careless as to remove my child from the car into traffic, look at what i have done........"

im not saying that insurance is not an important part of
any accident but it sure as hell wouldnt be the first thing on my mind if I were to make the decision to take my child out of the car into the street. The driver of the car is NOT responsible for the safety of you and your child. Even though they say safety is everyones job, but really it is ours to make sure that we make the CORRECT DECISIONS in how we approach possible situations.

So if you were driving down the road and a parent removes their child from the car on the drivers side and you hit them are you saying that the first thing you are going to think is "Gee I hope that they have some sort of insurance to pay for the damages on my car since it was their fault for being in the street." Im just not grasping the concept of insurance and what are some parents thinking putting themselves and their children in danger to be injured or killed.

I just want to ppl to really be careful out there and watch where they are going instead of being on the phone looking away or running a stop sign or red light and possibly killing someone we may know. I have 2 beautiful daughters and when they were younger I NEVER removed them streetside when I had to park on the curb, im not perfect but I dont understand why anyone would do that with all the idiots on the street who talk on the cell phone or speed down every road or just dont pay attention.

So tell me who would be the person responsible for the accident? The person with insurance? The person without insurance? (im guessing thats your choice) or the parent who stood out in the street with on coming traffic removing their child from the car INTO the street?

I believe it's a symptom of there being MANY drivers here without a license which consequently means they don't know or understand our laws and what is and isn't right. (They may not care any damned way) It all goes back to having so many unlicensed drivers on the street, something in which our city commissioners really don't think is an issue.

whats driving the drivers

i have read most of the comments on this board, concerning the illegal driving issues, DL's, insurance, ect.,. I am aware of the blanket statement of the commissioners. HAS ANYONE ON THE BOARD, visited with any commissioner, one on one, and found out their thoughts????? on the illegals dl's and insurances problems. OR, do we need to follow the money.

A lot of us have emailed each commissioner personally and some responded, some didn't. The responses were like the blanket statements basically.
