| I happen to let my children out streetside occasionally if that is the side they are sitting on, the only difference is that I hold my child's hand as soon as they step out of the car.

| I agree, but my point is that a person can let them out on that side of the vehicle as long as they pay attention and know where their child is and what he is doing. The stupid part is to pull them out on the street side and just let them stand on their own. I can see your point here, but I also think that the focus isn't what side of the car they are taking their child out on, but wether or not they are paying attention to the child after they get them out of the car.

| In case you didn't notice it...Dodge City is a fertile breeding ground for stupid, irresponsible parents.

| you can be as responsible as you want but streetside just isnt a smart place to remove your child from a car. Because ultimately in the end if anything, and lets not think like that, but lets say somoething does happen who will we end up blaming in the end? If it does happen, the parent will think on that day "Why didnt I just walk around and goto the passenger side!" when it is all said and done. Its better to be cautious than it is to throw caution to the wind. I have read so many times of parents in big and small towns who choose to cross the street in the middle of the road and have their child in a stroller and get hit. The same thing happens at crosswalks they try and rush across after the hand stops blinking and the llight turns green for the traffic and they get hit. The only thing they had to do was walkto the cross walk and push the button and wait and all would be right onthat day. I hate hearing things about children that could have been prevented by everyone around and if by posting this it makes people think about it the next time they get out then I know that one day maybe i saved a couple of lives and their children may grow up and become someone who will change our world. You never know! Im not perfect and im not challenging your or anyones decision I just want ppl to think about the choices they make when it comes to their children in certain situations and maybe it will pay itself forward. |

| I agree with midgetlover completely. Friday afternoon I was driving south on second one block pat old high school. Saw a young girl standing in street with drivers side door open. I do always slow down for this and sometimes have to stop because of traffic on my left. I stopped and she wave at me to thank me for letting her get into her car. All of a sudden a little boy came running out from behind her open door. Did not even see him until then. I was so glad that I stopped. Then I got mad and told her so. She said she was sorry, but who knows. I hope she learned something. ![]() |

Our local PD should patrol there when that school gets out and ticket all those drivers blocking traffic, double parking, etc. Many of them are in the right hand turn lane, parked behind the cars that are legally diagonal parked at the school. Making it virtually impossible for other drivers to make a legal right hand turn onto the westbound Comanche lane. It would really help fill the city coffers to help pay for all those raises city employees are getting. (Not so subtle hint to LordFoulsBane and NoLongerInRadioGuy and other officers who frequent this board.)
