What I was getting at (and I admit that I did a poor job of expressing what I wanted to say) is that I wish the PD and SO would take a "harder line" to squelch gang activity. Believe me, it's not a slam to the officers, but rather to the commissions that sign their checks (city or county). I would like to see the laws stiffened and would like to know what's going on as far as our gang enforcement. I know there are like 4 officers or so assigned but what is the result of their efforts. I know that just because I don't see or hear anything it's not happening but it would be nice to know what IS happening on the front of gang enforcement.

After they are arrested what is happening to them? Are they being bonded out? Skipping bond or what? Do they get reported to ice if they are illegal?

I heard, possibly wrongly, that our gang unit tries to get to "know" the gang members and deter them and their violence by "knowing" them and being their "friends." I really hope that I heard wrong about this...

I would like to see the gang unit get tough on picking them up for every little violation and the rest of the "system," to include prosecutors and the court, stepping up after the officers do their work and make them pay for their crimes.

THe excuse for that is that our jails are too full and our courts are too full...

I heard tonight on the radio that the Garden City Commissioners decided to let their new law getting tougher on those driving w/o license's and insurance stand despite pressure from particular communities. I say GOOD FOR THEM. Now if the Dodge Commissioners can't lead maybe they could at LEAST FOLLOW. Garden City streets will now be safer thanks to that law. They didn't let the excuse's that our commissioners gave get in the way.

Bond is supposed to be set by statute for known gang members at $50,000 if they are arrested for a felony.

I would agree that there could be more cooperation between ICE and local law enforcement.

Some publicity of efforts might help, but you have to be careful not to let the gangs know which methods are being used as well. A few of them can read.
