Ah. That'd be Gloria.

When I was there, the Chamber Banquet was a very formal event, but no giveaways, no bars, etc. But that was 20 years ago! I'm glad it was fun for you, even if the entertainment wasn't all that great!

Thumbs down Chamber Banquet----outside support

I am not a member of the Chamber, but.........as a member of the City that the Chamber is SUPPOSED to promote...........I'm pissed and extremely disappointed with what I heard about last night's banquet.
Let's see......the Banquet was catered by a company from not just out of town....but Kansas City!?!? What the HECK!!! There are many companies here in town that could cater that function.....and guess what? THE MONEY WOULD STAY IN DODGE CITY!!!!! What a Concept!!!Promote what you have!!!!
Point 2..... The "entertainment" was hired out of Tulsa!! TULSA!! Now we just left the state! Our dollars are buying products and services in Oklahoma! I have a HUGE problem with that! My friend Zeb and I have discussed the problem that some people don't seem to know of or care about the amount of great talent in our area....notice that I said GREAT....not good....As an entertainer, it distresses me that I, for the most part, have to go outside of Dodge to be able to play and be appreciated for the product that is placed before our listeners, dancers, and fans. With the addition of the Longhorn, that makes a grand total of 3 places availiable for me to play.....Geez, even Q97 can't figure out that "Local Talent", acting as an opening act, will bring more people to their concerts, etc.
Isn't the Chamber of Commerce supposed to act as a promoter of Dodge City Businesses? You want to promote Dodge City.....use Dodge City "products ans services"...You will get a much better response from your members and that of the Community at large.

I don't disagree. Hmmmm. I wonder if they left the planning of the food and entertainment up to someone else that didn't know the importance of spending money locally?

Seems someone from the Chamber would jump in right about now. I was never privy on the planning - the sell point for the tables was always advertising and highlighting your company with locals. Does seem strange tho. I know the entertainment wasn't from Dodge when I went but I believe the catering was done by a now defunct resturant that was in the mall. Course I'm not sure the WND promos are done locally either. It's business and the best bang for the buck just like any business. Who knows? It sure isn't something that sets well tho once ya think about it.
