..and would probably do a better job if it were privatized but that is one part that isn't as important to me. As I read I found out that a lot of local entities across this great nation or going private (out of necessity) and saving local and state gov't's much money in most cases. Do you think this is bad?

On the other hand, UPS and FedEx can't deliver a letter to the other side of the country for 41 cents. The government can.

Man I'm just saying that I think people for the most part can make better decisions on where and to whom their money goes than the gov't. Wordy I ask you again what gov't entity can you point to and say..."now there the way we should run things". The Military isn't a good example and the police and fire dept are always understaffed and over budget.

They probably all get their gas from the same supplier..lol You can bet though that if there was only 1 or 2 gas stations the rate might be higher but where their oare 20 competing for your $$ they have to be competitive.

You are comparing apples to oranges. The USPS is subsidized by the Fed Gov't. UPS and FED Ex aren't subsidized and make money.

The link you provided is pure bunk. UPS and FedEx will both deliver letters. Hence the Post Office does have competition.

By the way speaking of the success of the USPS...

The revisions increased the 2007 first-quarter loss to $3.0 billion, up from the $2.7 billion loss reported last year. There also will be revisions to second- and third-quarter 2007 results. The annual net loss of $5.1 billion for 2007 is not affected.

FedEx reported earnings of $610 million, or $1.96 per share for the three months ended May 31, up from $568 million, or $1.82 per share, a year ago.

For all of fiscal 2007, FedEx earned $2.02 billion, or $6.48 a share, up from $1.81 billion, or $5.83 a share, the previous year. Revenue rose to $35.2 billion from $32.3 billion a year earlier.


Ummm...yeah...Postal service is subsidized by the gov't and loses 5.1 billion last year....Fed Ex is private and makes 2+ Billion...yeahhhhh. Definitely a point for a well ran gov't entity. Good call on that one. Which one would you invest your $$ in?
