| I understand what you are saying Gunnar. If you were the guy in charge of "TOURISM" for a day and was building a website or flyer what would YOU print about Dodge City?

gunnar, Click your heels together 3 times, keep saying "There's no place like Dodge, there's no place like Dodge, there's no place like Dodge", and thinking all your positive thoughts and nothing ever gets done. That's negitive!! Tourism needs a shot in the arm! And it won't happen by just thinking about it. Face the facts, Our transient tax is down and we don't drive to business and vacations destinations like we used to. Families used to load up the station wagon and head out driving, stopping at most every attraction along the way, including Dodge City, but now we go to the airport and fly to our destinations. Times have changed and so must our approach to tourism, all your, what you call, positive thinking will not promote tourism in Dodge. Here's the deal! I know it's hard to believe, but I am not always the most perfect husband, but I try. There are times I disappoint my wife, times I let her down, times I don't listen close enough to her, time when I appear selfish and don't show her how much I appreciate her. When I do these things and she gets sick and tiried of it she lets me know in no uncertain terms that I've blown it. Sometimes she really lets me have it with both barrels. Follow closely, here's the catch! Does she jump all over me because she doesn't love me? Or maybe she confronts me because she hates me? Or maybe because she wants to run me off? NO! She confronts me when I fail her because she knows as well as I do that we are in this marriage for the long haul, we are not giving up, we are not walking out on one another, we are going to work hard at this relationship (and at times it is hard work) untill we get it right! If she just stands back and thinks positive thoughts every time I disappointed her or let her down or failed to show her appreciation we'd get no-where. Confrontations are inevitable in relationships. When the city blows it, I'll let 'em know. When they get it right I let 'em know. Just like my wife, I refuse to sit back and just think "positive" thoughts and agree with everthing the city says and does. Now, I may not be a big casino supporter but some good things will happen here in Dodge because of it, so let's start getting ready for tourists before they get here!!! And just thinking positive will not cut the cake. It's going to take some inovative thinking and planning, and a lot of hard work!!!

| My point isn't that there isn't room for improvement for tourism here in Dodge City. My point is that it has become the norm to complain around here, even when really the question didn't really warrant such a complaint...... How bout saying something to the effect of "Actually they do serve beer in the Longbranch, and during the summer months they actually serve dinner on the complex, and in the summer during Dodge City Days, they have a bull fry bash that is worth making special trip to town for. Unfortunately most of that isn't offered during the winter months, as attendance is usually pretty slow. But if you are looking for a good burger and a beer I might suggest Kate's or Cowtown.." All I'm saying is maybe next time throw them a bone, instead of throwing them a Commissioner's email address....
