Again with the attempt at turning it into a race issue.

Race has nothing to do with it. If the downtown was full of white owned tattoo parlors I'd say clean it up. It just so happens most of the shanty shops are Mexican owned.

Take off the racist glasses and see it for what it is. An eyesore.

The only change coming is that the hispanic population will continue to grow in Dodge as long as we give illegals with the red carpet treatment when they come to town.

Ah, but there you are wrong. Our casino will indeed turn things around. Once money starts flowing from a different source the current status quo will become a liability.

I agree with you Detector, the only thing I see in all the shops around town which are hispanic owned, are how to make you look like a hoochie in 30 minutes or less. I'm not saying it because they are hispanic owned, I would say the same thing if a white person owned a shop with clothing in the window like the hispanic owned shops have...

We can only hope. So you think when the Casino comes and there is money coming in from OTHER sources besides the packing plants that the town will turn on the plants and want them out?

To some degree.

Lets face it, right now we/Dodge City depend on the packing plants and the packing plants depend on the new comers. Money from another source, that stands to fail in a town full of new comers, will take the pressure off of rolling out the red carpet, and put the pressure on for a more tourist favorable atmosphere.

Nobody likes what Dodge City has become, but we are powerless to do anything about it. A casino will bring the power with it.

I disagree somewhat. If you drive downtown and look at some of the shops the storefronts are not any different than the non-hispanic shops. There are a couple of clothing stores down there that are pretty nice actually. I think saying that all the Hispanic shops look like hoochie shops is a generalization. There are non hispanic owned places that look very crappy. Who owns that beer store in front of the Best Western? It looks pretty crappy.

The thing is that as long as our population is vastly Hispanic that there will be a lot of hispanic shops downtown and in the mall. It just makes sense.

There are some pretty big lots in downtown for parking. Maybe they could rebuild that little parking garage too. Is it that people want to park directly in front of the store they want to visit?

I still wonder where all of these millions of dollars will come from.....Once the casino is here it might be a good idea. A downtown with some good eateries, a club or two and a bit of shopping might be kind of cool. It should all tie in with the Dodge City wild west theme....
