So?

Neither one was President and the Democrat that was, Clinton, saw most of his action in a motel room.

Now pay attention to Dutch because he is making sense and you’re not.

They cannot "pull in the reigns" because this has gotten out of control and turned into a civil war within the party. They have to gather a united front in which to take on McCain. So far their only stance is to try and make it seem like McCain is another Bush. It won't work because he is nothing like Bush. He has criticized Bush many, many times and criticized many of Bush's actions and plans. The Republicans, wether they agree with him or not, will vote for him in droves. There is no division amongst the Republican party. There is no hurt feelings, no name calling, no race or gender issues........they have a united front and trying to break it will not happen. Moderate republicans or Conservative republicans.....it does not matter since they consider themselves republican first and foremost. The Democrats do not have this. The emotions are worn on their sleeves. This very infighting cost them the last election. It will more than likely cost them this one too. I may be wrong, and if I am then so be it. I hope they can pull this together. If they don't, not only will it hurt their own party, it will again hurt everybody because they will make it an us against them thing again and nothing will ever get done properly. They will refuse to work with McCain, just like they have with Bush, and cause even more crap.

Nice analysis Dutchie, but I think the upcoming election will hinge on the electorate's disgust with the last eight years of "leadership". Now whether McCain agrees with the current administration or not, he will be seen as being of the same stripe because of his party affiliation.

Do I think we will be better off? Probably not. I am on record throughout this board and this election as saying our choices are zip, zero, and zilch. I just get kinda tired of the "conservatives" painting themselves as more patriotic because they support a illegitimate war, when in reality, they have their share of draft dodgers, etc. I think people spend too much time and effort trying to look at the "differences" of the candidates/party, when they'd be better served to look at their similarities. In that vein, I offer this post for your reading pleasure.

The point of the thread was what Howard Dean said. Bush and Cheney are not running for office. Dean's contention was that because Kerry had the military experience he would be a better president than Bush. Ok, fine. Is he now going to say the same thing about McCain? Hell no he isn't. It is just an example of how what you say can come back and bite you in the ass. You said Bush dodged Vietnam by joining the gaurd. What the hell does that have to do with anything? Nobody was touting his military experience. Hell, nobody even mentioned him or compared anybody to him so what the hell does it have to do with the election coming up now?
If Gore and Kerry both served more military time in a war zone than Bush did (which they did), and they both lost the election, then obviously it doesn't mean a whole lot now does it? The problem is that Dean made it an issue, and apparently wanted to make it a deciding issue at one time. Since he is the leader of the Democratic party, is he going to stand by that assertion or not?

See, I don't because most people are not disgusted. Most people are not unemployed, most people are not on welfare, most people who are on welfare are still on it and have not lost anything, most people are doing just fine. The independants, like me, are not that cut and dry. They understand that the president does not control everything. We understand that both parties have more in common than not. We also take things with a grain of salt and learn to read between the lines.

Only by the die hard Democrats. That is why I think it is a mistake to try and paint him with that brush. It is the independants and middle ground persons who elect the president.

As do I, but that was not the point in this thread. It was to point out how Dean is trying to stop the bleeding with his party. As for the war being "illegitimate", that is a far left thought. Most people may feel that the war is uneccasary (sic) but they do not feel it is an illegitimate one. Bush haters do though. If the Democrats wish to push that idea then they will alienate the middle ground. This is not about right and wrong, it is about common sense. The middle ground people voted Bush into office, twice. Now, if the democrats keep beating the drum about Bush being dumb, evil, stupid and wrong about going to war then they basically are calling those who voted for him the same. People do not like to be called stupid, even if they are. It is a bad strategy.

I am not trying to attack you or your views and opinions. I am, and was, merely trying to point out the situation with Dean and the spot the party he is the leader of is in. As an independant I am trying to show how things appear to someone who is not biased because of any party affiliation.

No. Not really. I'm not the one waking up with them, so I don't really give a damn about the nookie he gets. But I will add that I would probably find them more attractive than Larry Craig's choices.
