If this kind of toxic rhetoric came only from crackpots, it would be easy enough to dismiss. When it comes from pundits, celebrities, and politicians -- people whose views tend to get respectful attention -- it does real damage, and should be universally condemned.

People who label those they disagree with "Hitler" and "Sambo" traffic in foul, foul stuff, as repugnant as anything ever uttered by Joe McCarthy or George Wallace.

Yeah, like trying label someone a “Nazi” because you don’t understand or agree with them.

Using the "Nazi" label ends their debate with the intelligent mind(s). It's a self-preservation thing for those who chose to use the label to avoid exposing a lack of facts; but it leads their mindless followers.

The downside is that it alienates their 'members' who chose to think and decide for themselves. No one really knows how many Dem's have fled the fold because of this ill-fated tactic. Maryland's going to be another example of how this works.
