| The Mexican economy is very dependent on the (illegal) drug trade; but you won't find its ranking.

| The flag count in that picture was 29 identifiable Tri-Color and only 15 Stars & Bars.

One can disagree with the protesters, their methods, and their intentions all day long; it's one's right <wink>. You cannot not however wrap yourself in the flag and criticize their right to association and to protest without being hypo-critical the next time someone questions something you believe strongly in, be it prayer in schools, guns, a criminal proceeding or anything else. And before someone jumps my butt about non-citizens protesting, the wording the 1st amendment states *people*, not *citizens* and the fourteenth extended those rights officially to *non-citizens*. |

| One must believe this is simply an immigration issue to validate it through the 1st and 14th amendment. It has nothing to do with the 1st and 14th and everything to do with crime and criminals. The above statement does makes sense, are these supporters trying to teach kids breaking the law/rules is OK if you have a good excuse?

Some, even most, of the protestors may be in this country illegally. However the their *crime* from a punishment standpoint is similar to a traffic citation, it's primarily a civil punishment in most cases. They're criminals in the same sense any one of us when we exceed the posted speed limit or rush a yellow light only to have it turn red just as get there and go through it. Only they don't get a fine, they get sent back. Albeit only in many cases to try again. In a perfect world, there would be no illegal immigration. Those here would be returned or those allowed to stay would do a better job assimilating but the world is not perfect. I seem to read a lot of opinions on how they are cheating to system to live off the taxpayer's dime. Being involved in a social service type business, trust me, the taxpayers aren't out as much as one may think. I think the biggest issue that impact most taxpayers is the education issue but those in charge of education can't seem to get johnny to write a complete sentence and do a multiplication table, how the hell can they assimilate a strategy for educating immigrants? My way of dealing with it personally was to make sure I had a badder car stereo than *they* did so I could drown out their music with a good dose of Zepplin or Tull. But if you were behind me at the light and preferred country music, you probably get PO'd at me too. There will eventually be a resolution to this issue, and it will probably be somewhere in the middle of the various thoughts. Even Frist and Hastert are now backing off the call to criminalize the routine undocumented entry. |
