Last week, Slade began waging a public campaign to clear her name and reputation. She conducted radio and television interviews. But it may have backfired because the regents had ordered her to remain silent during the investigation.
Previous boards have always voted to fire past presidents embroiled in financial controversies.

Slade was put on paid leave last month.

Slade, who was appointed president in 1999, earns a salary of more than $260,000 a year. She also received a $14,400 a year car allowance and $48,000 a year for housing expenses.
