So what have we learn from the protest?

I gather from what I'm seeing on the news today that the boycott had little to no effect on the economy. Now the their saying they weren't trying to hurt Americas economy? So yesterdays protest was pretty much the same as the first one. Just another reason to take the day off.

So what have we learned?

I think one of the most disturbing facts that have come from these protests is our governments disregard for its peoples wants.

Americans have overwhelmingly voiced their want to send these illegals back to Mexico and yet its ignored. Americans have voiced their want that the boarder be closed NOW yet they ignore it and continue to entice even more illegals to America.

America continues to shout this is not an immigrant issue but an illegal issue yet the media and government ignores it. Our complaints have been they are criminals and should not be rewarded for breaking the law yet they continue to have no respect for the law and get away with it.

What these protests have done is to show us where the loyalty to Americans is and who is in bed with the problem. Clearly the lines have been drawn and what we find is a good majority of our PRESENT leaders on are the opposite side of the boarder as is some major companies. The politicians will be dealt with come voting time where I understand most Americans plan to cast their vote based on the immigration stance. It will take time but these people will be purged right down to our local level.

Dealing with big business is also being addressed the way I understand it. For example our problem with the packinghouses that have clearly crossed the boarder. I understand there is a nation wide letter being sent to businesses that have shown they do not support illegal workers asking for an outlet in troubled locations. I hear Dodge City is on the list sent to meat packing plants asking for an outlet.

It think what these protests have actually done is to take the wind out of the illegal sail and show Americans all they have shown is the ability to bring out masses to take a day off.

What kind of effect COULD it have? So some of them didn't buy anything for ONE day. BIG DEAL...they bought it all the day before. Anyone that took economics in high school can tell you that one day is NOT going to be that big of a deal. I have an idea...if they want to make an impact on our economy they should do something really radical...like move away...maybe even all the way to Mexico..that will show us! We would all be miserable if things were back to the way they were here in like...the late 70's and early 80's...you know..when it didn't stink here all the time and you could shop in peace and not have to worry about being billingual to get a damned job?? Does anyone remember when you could go for a walk and not have to be scared? Remember when you could get a job in high school at a fast food place and not to have a college degree in languages to get it?

I guess what I have learned, after reading todays paper, is they can't even get along with each other. This was supposed to be a show of unity yet they argued about leaving Wright Park to march. Then part of them marched and part didn't. I learned that even though they were not supposed to march our police department rushed to protect them. Why were they no told to get their asses back to the park?

6 officers on the street vs. 600 - 1000 marchers, LG, you do the math.

We have a duty to protect the public (that includes all people, legal or illegal). That duty requires us to block traffic so that no marcher gets hurt AND that no motorist strikes a marcher which would, in all honesty, end up in some type of legal action.

To answer this thread's question, we have learned that there are too many of them. They should also learn that, too.

Quote:
The immigration question is particularly pertinent here given southwest Kansas' sizable and growing population of Latinos, legal and illegal, and U.S. lawmakers have been wrestling with the issue. There are an estimated 11 million to 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States in all, and some favor a crackdown to trim their numbers.

What they'd discover is that their 'supply' has kept their wages too low.

Lordfoulsbane (P158) Did they have a marching permit. Is it right that the street is blocked for illegals to make the legal working citizen late for work. Why wasn't INS there checking their status and hauling off the illegals. Why do certain people in this community get to break the law. Go to the City Court and sit quietly in the background and watch the verdicts. I have and couldn't believe what I saw...

Did they have a marching permit. No. This was addressed by the Chief of Police with the organizer(s) of the unscheduled march

Is it right that the street is blocked for illegals to make the legal working citizen late for work. Would you rather have someone struck by a car, ambulance called, many roads blocked off and possibly be even more late for work? And yes, it was the right thing to do.

Why wasn't INS there checking their status and hauling off the illegals. No idea. The Immigration and Naturalization Service is a Federal Agency under the Department of Homeland Security. The DCPD is local law enforcement. The INS has yet to keep us informed on what their future plans for Dodge will be.

Why do certain people in this community get to break the law. Why does ANYone get to break the law? The question you should ask is, why the SAME people get to break the law over and over again.

Go to the City Court and sit quietly in the background and watch the verdicts. I have and couldn't believe what I saw...littlemom, I go to court all the time to testify. Thats all I will say on that matter.

LordFoulsBane first let me say I for one have the up-most respect for the DCPD and feel they do one hell of a job. I also realize on federal matters such as illegal immigration your hands are tied for the most part.

My question is are there plans to file charges against these protest organizers for breaking the law? If not their only going to do it again. The biggest problem we have is that these people continue to break the law with no fear of punishment. The city leaders seems to be petrified of them now I know our PD isn't. I also realize our city leaders could have told the PD hand off.

You don't need to answer any of this if you feel its confidential information or any chance you might get into trouble. I will understand.

I’ve got a quarter to bet that LordFoulsBane isn’t high enough in the food chain to be privy to that information.
