| Dodge City Grain Elevator Blowout!! I've been waiting for the Globulette to report about a major silo breakage at the grain elevator on the south side of Trail Street... Not an explosion; but a rupture of one of the tubes that's large enough to drive a freight train through. No, it didn't hurt a soul but it will further impact our local farmers when it's time to harvest. But we are gunna get to pay for a special events center... I read about that. ![]()

| It'll impact harvest, alright...but better now than when the silo is full of wheat/corn. That's too bad. Have they said what the cause was? Oh, that was a pretty stupid question. They (the Glov) haven't even acknowledged it yet. I can't imagine how a hole in the elevator would come to be there if it weren't caused by an explosion.

| The way the wheat looks, it probably won't have any effect!! I believe the problem the last few years has been more of a problem with transporting the grain out, rather than storing it. With the lack of railroads and rail cars, most must be trucked out. So most of the storage has been dumped onto the ground. The birds love it!! ![]() |

| One more question....is the hole big? I mean big enough to cause structural damage?

| The open hole is big enough to drive a train through although it's about 40 feet above ground. It's surrounded by a damaged area that could be 80 feet from top to bottom. The tube that blew is used to hold grain as it is gravity fed down to waiting trucks, etc. and it endures lots of stresses as grain is moved from the facility. This part of the entire elevator was said to have been built in 1929. Most of the currently used elevators were built in the Eisenhower administration or before.

| So then, is it even fixable? I wonder if it was insured. If so, they could probably tear it down and rebuild a more current model. If they can't use it, hopefully they'll take it all down. What an eyesore it could become.

| Yeppers... it's fixable and insured. The Right Coop (Wright) is in control of it. I should be able to take a pix of it soon..... Lately, this doG's been very busy diggin-up bones and chasin tires.
