Terrorist (how to) movie to shoot in Elkhart.

http://www.hutchnews.com/news/region...ie060606.shtml

There's something I don't really like about this. Freedom of speech and artistic expression aside, I don't like attracting any attention to how easy it would be to destroy our local industries.... and the huge impact it would have on the rest of this Nation.

Knocking down some buildings in New York and punching a hole in the Pentagon wouldn't hold a candle to disrupting the flow of natural gas or destroying the beef/food industry.

It's a tad worrysome but I look at it like this... If some filmaker or writer has thought of it then someone more determined isn't learnign anythign new from it.

Yes I get it

Try to stay with me here.

He figured this out after visiting and it wasn't too hard to do by simple observation. Someone who is determined to cause harm would actually be looking for this kind of thing and would have known about it well in advance of some movie.

One of the first tidbits of information I learned when I moved to Dodge was how part of the concern during WWII was in the event of a land invasion the communication relay in Dodge would have to be protected.

I typed this slowly for your benefit so pull your head out and THINK about it. I know it's difficult to do being a good right winger and all but PLEASE try.

Nice diversion, yet mildly OT. What can you tell us about "the communication relay in Dodge" during "WWII"...? This is a yarn I'd really like to read.

Over the last few years there have been reports of crimes inspired by movies. Apparently movies give some folks ideas they ain’t smart enough to think of on their own.

Folks of your political leaning believe that everything is acceptable for free speech no matter who it offends or who might be put in harms way by irresponsible remarks. The notable exception to free speech rights are those folks that would make statements about God in public places.

I dont' care if you make remarks about God in a public place as long as you don't institutionalize it and force others to think as you do.

If you want to talk about God and I can walk away then more power to you and your speech.

Fundies: Want the right to choose everyone's worship. I'd prefer that everyone have the right to worship as they choose.

It was something one of the history teachers talked about when I first moved to Dodge. I never checked out if it was true or not but that's what my class was told at the time.

The story was that Dodge had some sort of hub for telephone across the country and it was a concern that it would be a target. True or not I don't know.

The point still stands though that anyone who is determined to cause damage can find out anything they want to fairly easily.

Nice try at a diversion though.

Your failure to check for the validity of your information intake must be a long term problem.

As I analyze your position, I forsee this movie being watched and reported in the media AND as I imagine some half-wit or full-wit terrorist copycatting it; I wonder just where you would place the blame.

Your comment about a WWII communications hub in DC is a perfect example of misinformation in the minds of the mindless. Just in case you would like to know what the teacher was talking about, this link will provide more information than you'll ever comprehend.

True, Dodge City was a host for a vital microwave tower site for the public switched telephone network long after WWII. Kansas was also sliced for a SAC Cold War cable that ran from Omaha to Cheyenne Mountain, but that slice was way north of Dodge and very little was known about it by the general public.
