Study says millions have 'rage' disorder

To you, that angry, horn-blasting tailgater is suffering from road rage. But doctors have another name for it — intermittent explosive disorder — and a new study suggests it is far more common than they realized, affecting up to 16 million Americans.

"People think it's bad behavior and that you just need an attitude adjustment, but what they don't know ... is that there's a biology and cognitive science to this," said Dr. Emil Coccaro, chairman of psychiatry at the University of Chicago's medical school.

OK folks, I’m calling BS on this. The head shrink clowns are trying to create cash flow into their pockets.

Let’s back up and look at drinking and driving. Many years ago it was determined that alcohol was a disease. When that happened alcohol treatment began to be covered under health insurance policies. Treatment centers became a flourishing business. So now days if someone gets a DUI it’s common for the court to order counseling/treatment. Nice business to be in, having a judge order someone to report and pay your fee.

So if this IED becomes accepted instead of the jerk that cut you off just getting a ticket for careless/reckless driving it stands to reason the judge will order counseling too. Another stream of potential customers at your door required by law to be there. Nice racket ain’t it? If you can’t sell something, get the law to order folks to buy it.

I heard this story too, and also thought it was BS. There is an excuse for every out-of-control emotion. Just because someone has impatience does not mean that they have a chemical imbalance. I say teach the young respect and we would have very few problems.

Here is what I have observed in my study of the situation while driving.....

When you are driving, you are the only person driving "just right." You have all the @ssholes in front of you that are driving too slow, and all the idiots passing you that are driving too fast.

The funny thing is, is that this scenario works for every car on the road. You are the @sshole to some, and you are the idiot to others! All the while you are going around thinking your are the only sane driver.

I'm with you Highway!! BS - the problem is that it's gonna catch on. JR is right - they just need some swift ass kickin when young and a bigger feller in front of them when they are adults. Course the defense attorneys need sumthin to defend with when their client has shot someone like they often do. Just another example of our sick society that feels "it's not my responsibility or God forbid it's never gonna be thier fault!" Gotta be an excuse for everything - sad ain't it?
