3% verification.... what a joke. You are joking... right?

Sorry, afraid not. but then again 3% might be a better verification volume than FEMA apparently uses.

If that's what you aspire to, then divorce your husband and get a job at Taco Bell, you'll be able to get all them fine government benefits you are being so throughly deprived.

Lordie, How dare them poor people have a car? Why can't they walk to work and school like good low income people should? I bet some even have...gasp....color TV's, running water, toilets, telephones, and maybe even a job! Even Dodge City KS has jobs. Then again Tahoes Suburbans, and whatever that cadillac thing is called can be had pretty cheap right now compared to a toyota camry if one is buying on credit as I'm sure at least some of them just have to do.

Or maybe you should just look up what is considered *poor* these days? Right or wrong, it is what it is.

You’re right that even poor folks should have a car. A Cadillac Escalade is just a car like a 50” plasma HDTV is just a TV. It’s probably the red white and green flag that makes the difference.

OK, I thought you had some very valid points and was appreciating your point of view. But, this is just over the top!

You say how dare they have a car? That is fine, if you are a single parent, getting food stamps and free meals for your kids at schools you can get you a nice dependable certified used saturn, or honda or a minivan. You don't need to be spending money on a new Cadillac Escalade no matter what kind of deal you get.

I just went to your linked site and with the great deal that GM will give you on an Escalade, you can get $5500 cash allowance on a $57,000 Escalade and 0% financing! So, your great deal amounts to $715.28 a month for a 72 month loan. Then you are going to have a property tax and registration bill of around $600-700 each year when you buy tags for it. Your insurance will also be a nice amount of money to come up with.

Where a new Toyota Camry, as you point out, might not be that great a deal. I went to the toyota website and a top of the line V6 Camry XLE runs for $27,520. Using that figure and a 10% interest rate for 60 months, that is one year less than the Escalade example above, your payment is $584.72.

Now, you tell me which is the smart choice for a person on limited income, receiving government assistance to feed and house your family! You could use that extra $130 a month to get off the free lunch program and have some pride in yourself.

Then you try to joke about having color TV's and running water, etc. A color TV is fine, but how many of the limited income families think that with that color TV they deserve to have the best digital cable tv with HBO, Cinemax, Showtime and all the other premium channels.

I feel as a responsible adult that if you are recieving assistance you don't have the right to cable tv, internet access etc. Those are convenience and/or luxury items. You can get free internet access at the public library. You should concentrate more on prioritizing your money to necessity items.

end of rant

It’s a free country and a body can drive whatever they want to. To many folks what kind of car you drive makes a statement and some folks need to be mindful of the message they send.

I lied, I'm not done with my rant!

If you are on limited income who says you need a brand new vehicle? If you have your mind set on a Cadillac. You can get a used 2000 Cadillac Escalade for $12,000-15,000. That sure makes more sense for a limited income person than a 2007 model for $57,000.

Your used payment would be $380.44 for a $15000 loan for only 48 months at 10% interest.

That is true. But, if you have limited income, I would think that it would be wise to make smart choices with the money that you do have so that at some point in the future you could get ahead.

Remember the old saying "Welfare Cadillac"? Its the same situation here.

I don't mind my money being used to help people that need it, but when you see them(70-75%) poverty stricken people(mostly newcomers) driving Escalades and now free food all year it just says someone isn't watching how my moneys being spent.

What I meant by a bit of responsibility is it seems these people need some consoling more than just throwing money at them. If they can afford to drive an Escalade they can obviously afford to feed their own kids. The way I see it is I'm paying to feed their kids so they can afford to drive an Escalade.

If anyone wants to become a provider to the classically independent as they transition into dependency, then simply begin placing food where an alley kat will find it.... soon you'll begin to see the kat & its kittens. Given a small amount of time the katz will begin to think they are entitled to that food.

Given more time you'll begin to see other kat families laying around and waiting for their entitled food. While they are breeding, some might catch an occasional mouse to play with; but all will shit on your property.
