| Boot Hill needs mo money! Could someone please give me a brief description of the fight about the tax money? What I have gathered is...voters approved a tax increase (sales or property?) a few years ago to be used to (fill in the blanks, 3 of 4?) but as time went on (and I'm assuming it's due to the DC economy becoming as flacid as an 90-year-old groom before the invention of Viagra) residents wanted the sales tax to either go away or be used for something else, not for the voter-mandated tax increase question of yesteryear. Beside explaining all this to an out-of-state moron might rekindle what the real path was supposed to be. Educate me. PS: Weezie's memory of the trail rides stimulated my cobwebs too. I "rode" along (I grew up on a dairy farm and the only "horses" I had was any old cow or young steer dumb enough to let me hop on for a few seconds) on one in 1981? and used to have one of those solid, weighted "marshal's badges" until a whore from Key West stole it and started to spread rumors I was a fed. Oh the memories. |

| an' on the KC Strip thing? I just call 'em strip steaks. Some of the stores up here call 'em NY Strips, some of 'em call 'em KC Strips. An' they ALL look at ya funny if ya forget which store does it which way. I really don't care whatcha call 'em, I just love 'em hot off the grill! Hubby likes to put A-1 Sauce on 'em and has taught it to his son. I call that criminal - if ya can't eat it without the A-1, then leave it for me to eat! mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm beef - it's what's for dinner. I just love that guy's voice!

| The local voters were caught up in a slick field of dreams. Garth Brooks was on our TV's and 'they' were telling us that we are the entertainment center of the universe. All'z we had to do was vote "YES" on a ballot that added 1% to our sales tax and money would fall from the ceiling. We did. Money fell and we began building softball fields, a race track and remodeled our mostly vacant civic center. The doG's from above kept the money spenders from building a huge "special events center" to house massive conventions and accomodate special events.... but new important ones seem to be intent on spending the money on a big building. An old Judge from Wichita too. None of these properties have attracted additional revenue that approach the monies spent; unless you massage the "economic impact" figures. Can I borrow a buck for a beer?

| luker, You got it right! Along with passing the W.N.D. the 1/4% sales tax that was used to improve and repair our streets sunset. The W.N.D. fund took that sales tax money! Now street improvement and repair comes from property taxes. Maybe after the S.E.C. is built we can turn the Civic Center over to 443 and they can use it for a bus barn! Heck, we might as well, we can't even fill it now! We can throw half a million at D.C.R.P. (with no accountibility) but we can't afford to support Meals on Wheels? What wrong with that picture? Heck, even our city manager get a membership at the country club at tax payers expense! Something is just not right! |

| We can't afford to waste any money on Meals on Wheels... those folks are old and in the way. Cides that, that money jest gets eaten. Ricky Sours told us that every dollar we give to the racetrack turns over 6 times.... so it's an investment in our e-con-o-me. HEY! FREE TICKETS TO THE RACES this weekend!! I'd rather they just gave us the money.
