Messenger's message on Illegal aliens.

Good ideas here:

Quote:
Tough problem to solve

The Sept. 8 Garden City Telegram had an article on immigration and the different responses to that problem. This problem started many years ago and gradually has gotten to the point of public rebellion. In certain localities, the problem cannot be addressed like it can in other areas.

Liberal, Dodge City and Garden City are cities that are greatly supported by the meat packing industry. They butcher lots of cows and probably have the largest per capita employment of illegal people in this state. The pay scale is a little over one-half of the national average wage, and we do not have enough unemployed people to keep these plants open. Should we send the illegals back to Mexico? How do you think this would affect these areas? Are any of you or your family members going to work for Tyson at $8.40 per hour?

The other side of the picture is the statement made by Ellis County Farm Bureau President Lance Russell, saying he's like many Kansas farmers today. They can't find enough hired help willing to work for less than $10 an hour. He also said the migrant work force will be more in demand as the local work force dries up. The local work force is drying up because of fewer people, not because of the migrant labor force. Connie Morris doesn't like educating the undocumented children. Karen Hauser of the Salina Catholic Charities questions why anyone helping these undocumented people should face a jail sentence. Gary Mickelson of Tyson Foods wants better tools to verify documents.

Everyone wants. You cannot immediately solve an age-old problem without creating a lot more, and worse new ones. If the financial supporters of the political parties wanted the border closed, it would get closed. Too many entities are making too much money now, and closing the border would interfere with their profit margin. You people have to realize the entities that run this country do not care about the people or this country. They care about their bottom line profits.

If you are sincere about solving this problem, do these things. Close the border. Allow immigrants in on an employer work acceptance guarantee and have the employer present to accept them. All those not working tomorrow must go back. All those who have jobs can remain, and if they lose that job, may remain for six months to find another job. Above all, do not be stupid in your assessment of situations. Accept the fact that being illegal is not against the law, as this has been broken so many times and ignored that it has set a precedent. Jail the lawbreakers and charge the Mexican government housing costs, or let the Mexican government accept those people and guarantee they will not be back. Then wait 30 years for things to correct themselves. After all, we have been accumulating these people for the last 85 to 100 years, and it is impossible to solve a problem now that should have been addressed 50 years ago.

If the cowboys could round up a whole herd down South, and drive them all the way up to Dodge City; then we should be able to round up a whole herd of illegals, and drive them back down South.

This person has a grasp on what is going on but not on a cure.

DUH! we've known that problem is people making money off cheap labor and these are the same ones supporting illegals.

This problem started in 1965 and the flood started in the 80's. Nowhere near 85-100 years ago.

I see this as nothing more than another path to citizenship(amnesty) dressed in different clothing in an attempt make it sound good. There are plenty of Americans looking for jobs, just check with all the people collecting unemployment, it's employers looking for cheap labor. Do they not realize the next step these illegals take after becoming citizens is to file a grievance for higher pay?

I say they get all these people collecting unemployment together with all these employers that can't find Americans to do the jobs.

I say, cut 'em all off of unemployment, and they will find jobs!
