| Man holds cure for AIDS Man holds cure for AIDS but refuses to help 35 million affected persons. This guy HAD AIDS , but his body cured him of it. Doctors think his body holds the answer to a cure, but he doesn't want to get involved. http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/com...55E663,00.html http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald...h/13164826.htm Is this a case for eminant domain? Shoud the guy be forced to undergo tests that may rid the workd of AIDS? Last edited by Tee; 11-17-2005 at 11:28 AM.. |

| 'Mornin', Hiway! I hadn't thought quite that far, I guess, but let the punishment fit the crime!

| It said he had tried to sue the hospital. Call me a cynic but he's probably wanting to be paid some large amount of money.

| Then I say, lets pay him. How much money do you think goes into AIDS research in one year? If the guy holds some sort of genetic key or antibody that can be reproduced, then how much money is that worth? Billions! I wouldn't mind giving him a cool mill of taxpayer money to submit to testing that could possibly lead to a cure, if that is what it takes to save 35 million people. |

| Eminent Domain In this country, the government can take a persons property to build a freeway or Walmart "for the betterment of society", because this act may make life "handier" for several thousand people. Here, a little blood and inconvenience for one man, could potentially save 35 million peoples lives and countless billions in the future, plus save the taxpayers trillions from health care costs, and other costs associated with supporting the AIDS epidemic, not to mention all the human suffering. If ever there was justification for eminent domain, isn't this it? |

| Good point Tee. I think eminent domain has only applied to real estate so this would be breaking new ground. Could be an interesting several years in court. Flashing enough green under his nose might be faster and cheaper.

| I guess it's just the whole idea of the man getting rich off something that's God-given that sends chills up my spine. But then, I wouldn't turn down the chance to do it myself, so that makes me no better. If money will move him, I don't disagree - let's do the deal and start studying.

| I'd bet there would be a drug company out there willing to pay him NOT to submit himself to testing. They make a BUTT LOAD of money making the drugs to fight the symptoms.
