School Safety

I was wondering what you all thought about what we are all hearing in the news latley about all the school shootings. I agree that it has been horrifying to hear about all the innocent children that have lost their lives due to these acts of violence. I realize that it is very fresh on the minds of parents, kids, and school employees. I just read an article about a boy that was arrested for what he wrote in a class assignment. My question is how far is too far when it comes to the actions of schools and the people that run the schools in the name of protecting our children? AND to those that have kids in schools in this area.... Do you think your kids are safe?

Our kids lost their safety and their education when the States' and National politico's gained control over our local School Boards through monetary handouts.

Meet fire with fire - we need a few school marshalls....... like air marshals - we need a few teachers packin. I heard that somewhere (can't remember where ) they are teaching the kids slef defense with books, siccors, anything. Basically the kids are being taught how to "change the enviorment" if a hostage situation occurs. If one kid is shootin and 750 kids are takin ya on with throwin books, desks ets there ain't gonna be shootin for long. The idea is to change from the victim to regaining control of your situation. Defense rather than offense. Ya do what ya need to do - better to be prepared than dead.

The FIRST thing they need to do (in DC anyway) is take control of the High School. Spend a day up there. In my opinion there is little enforcement of the basic rules. The dress code is violated by A LOT Of kids and no one says anything. There are fights constantly among other things. And...if parents think that there aren't kids bringing guns to school...think again. It's only a matter of time....and like I said it all begins with enforcement of the basic rules.

I agree.. Kids need to be taught how to take control IF the need is there. But how do we know they will use it ONLY in a life or death situation? My opinion to the question about do I feel our schools are safe.... Im not so sure. Has anybody here tried to walk into a school latley? You can get to several classrooms full of children before anybody knows you are there. That does not feel safe to me. I think the doors should be locked in such a way that you can get out of course but nobody gets in without ringing a bell or what ever you need to do to get the attention of the people inside. I realize though that would not keep out someone that "should" be inside. How is anybody supposed to really know when someone else is gonna snap? This is a very scarey subject. I wish there was a real answer to keeping our kids safe besides keeping them home.

Are schools safe? No! Lets face it anything less than a prison setup isn't going to be safe. If a student/person is determined enough kids are going to die. I think whats more important is why are these people turning to killing Innocent when they crack.

When I was in school the need for police to come to the school was a big event. Today we have a full time police officer at the school. I realize times have changed since my days in school, and thats my point. Society is Marjor'ly screwed up so when people crack they lash-out at it. When people crack they often try and take part of the problem with them.

Life for kids today is very confusing and offers no security. Not physical security but mental security. That is to say they are not secure in knowing right and wrong and whats expected of them from society. For example, they may sit at school next to an illegal they know is breaking the law, the teacher knows they're breaking the law yet it's ok for some twisted reason. So breaking the law is only wrong in certain situations. Some times it's perfectly acceptable.

Society is teaching it's ok to ignore breaking the law if you're income depends on it. I say society because we know schools ignore illegal students because their paycheck depends on them, and we do nothing.

I see today on the news some illegals are suing Wendy's. Now I understand they(illegals) have a good cause for suing IF THEY WERE HERE LEGALLY, but this is just absurd and another good example of our twisted society. If I were to break in to some place, get bit by the guard dog and sue the owner people would laugh. DUH! you were there illegally. But no I'll bet these law breakers will even get a round of applause from our sick society.

Today it's perfectly acceptable to hate America and our president and it's even encouraged to openly say so, yet voicing a personal opinion about race or sexual preference gets you expelled.

We now have guns on planes for protection and talk of teachers carrying guns. Anyone else see where this country is headed? I used to see these 3rd world countries where every one has a gun for protection and think I can't imagine what that must be like. Well I'm beginning to see what it might be like.

No, the owners wouldn’t be laughing because in today’s twisted society the criminal is likely to win a settlement in court. Crime pays and it encourages criminals. Defend yourself and risk being charged like a criminal.
