The things he says basically play on the fears of people. Jobs going overseas, healthcare, etc etc yadda yadda yadda. One story was about a guy that worked at Ford with his dad. He just expected to work there for the rest of his life and now he's finding out that his factory is being closed. That's what happens when you pay someone 28$ an hour to turn a bolt on an assembly line....He wonders WHY the jobs are going overseas? In this case I'm not sure the jobs are going anywhere but away because Ford is getting their ass handed to them by Toyota and Honda. Maybe they should look at those companies business plan and try that out. The first thing they should do is make a good product.....When you have an inferior product it's only a matter of time before you go under.....
Yes it was a canned show and he was promoting his book...seems like alot of that is going around these days....

I also agree about the wages some are paid and inferior products being produced.... Seems to me this all started ...in 75...76...?? when we had the big" OIL SHORTAGE".... we were in Okinawa and when the dust cleared prices had doubled for fuel...... we lived in a quansat(ms)hut in base housing ...so we werent aware of the total picture until we came home and went to buy a car.... and housing had gone thru the roof....... we were priced out of a new vehicle and buying a house .....we just bought a used veh and were appalled at the price of it..... we were sent to Luke AFB(Phoenix was even high priced at that time.....and rented a house til we could get base housing ...WAY MORE than our housing allowance...and with 3 Kids we had to make do....no choice.....anyway ...seemed it all happened overnight..... military wages did not keep up with inflation as most wages did not either....

Now my point in this.... the high wages now ...for some industry.....for just turning a bolt or just making a movie...or just manufacturing an airplane or PLAYING SPORTS.... ...or ........on and on and on.....

Is it better that Corporatations keep that profit ???....or pay the actual folks that do the real work....?? Im blown away about the whole concept....
Course I am now at the point that I never thought about ...til I got here....
saying the same my ........grandparents and parents were saying when they talked about their youth........"THOSE WERE THE GOOD OLE DAYS".....OMG
The days before the first OIL CRISIS.....life was so simple....
WHERES MY LEXIPRO...... gotta go take my meds now.....

NO such thing as an American made product anymore. They might be assembled here but much of the manufacturing comes from outside our broken borders.

That's hard to define anymore....Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai and many others are "Made in America."

They are made in America but the companies are Japanese owened. They give American's jobs and there isn't anything wrong with that...hell they probably take better care of their employees than Ford....

"Buy American" sounds good but if it's an inferior product and you have "X" amount of dollars to spend you want the best product for your money and that's usually NOT the American product...especially when it comes to Automobiles.

Would you buy "Iraqi" right now??? Some of us still remember WWII, the Korean War, and Vietnam. The countries of the world can't beat us militarily, so they are beating us economically. Personally, I will not work for any foreign company. I buy American, support America, and will not give up my freedoms because I am American!

Lou Dobbs

I might have this wrong, but it's my memory that Sam Walton only sold items actually produced in the United States. After he died and the family sold out to the bean counters, Wall-Mart became all about the bottom line.
It used to be that when an American company lost market share, it looked to improve the product and/or service. Now it seems it's the bottomliners, propelled by the public investors to derive more and more profit. The hell with the product; let's all (if you owned the stock) make more money.
Did I get this all wrong?

It's a Global Economy and consumer products are outsourced to the cheapest producer.

If you design a new widget and want it produced, all you have to do is email the design to any producer for production.

In the case of China, most factories will tool and produce any quantity for a very modest cost. Some even offer to ship the first production units on the next 747 out of China simply because they are that aggressive. The downside is China doesn't recognize intellectual property rights.

For the record: all real wealth comes from the Earth. Everything else is simply "added value."
