Yeah, hubby was pretty excited I was looking at a VW, cuz he thinks there's nothing better than German engineering. When he looked at the door doomaflitchy that told him it was really built in America, he was floored. The salesman was quick to point out that it's still built with the tight standards the Germans engineered. So. The Germans kept part of the money, but a lot of it came to America in wages. Isn't that the best of both worlds? I have a car that is one of the finest automobiles engineered (outside of the Mercedes....), and hard working Americans are employed because of it.

I have a South Carolina assembled BMW and trying to decide between an Alabama assembled Mercedes or another BMW. The engineering on both cars is top notch. There were however a couple of assembly defects on the Beemer that forced the KC and Wichita dealers to send a tow truck and loaner to Dodge the first year I owned it. Once they fixed those bugs things were fine. Just turned 197K on it and therefore the reason for the new one.

In the "for what's it's worth." category

The Germans keep the money on Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep products now and I've read articles where the Japanese auto operations in America offer substantially the same salary and benefits that UAW workers get, even though those plants are not unionized.

I agree with ya Army. It is tough to find totally American in vehicles, etc. That is because the almighty buck reigns supreme, and the foreigners work for alot less money. All I am saying is to buy American if you can, before all of our jobs and companies are gone. And as far as "quality", I have over 200K miles on my Ford, and have had no problems with it. Hell, think I can get another 100K or so out of it. On another note, look up land ownership in the State, and see how much of our farm ground is now owned by foreign companies. It'll scare you!

It doesn't scare me. A lot of our banks and business's are owned by foreign investors. Again...global economy... There are a lot of American owned companies that own businesses and land overseas also.

So, when you are fighting the "enemy" overseas, you are really fighting for the "enemies" property and material goods in America?? Sounds real logical!!
