Hey, my relatives fought for the South! And I do fly the Confederate flag, below the US flag of course. You know, I am so un-PC!! On another note, my wife is handicapped, and when traveling thru Mississippi most State facilities were very helpful to us.

Yeah...you could say I have been to "sippi....My dad...my grandparents...from "sippi".... I spent alot of time there... as a child I loved it , met my kids father there ...had my first child at Columbus AFB...

Would I want to live there?...not really ...but I never thought I would live in Kentucky... where my mom is from...(talk about your family tree only having one branch....whew !!!).... however it is so beautiful here and so far so good...

I call Kansas my home tho... and when someone slams it , I get fired up...I absolutely love Ks ... but I have no kinfolk there anymore.... but alot of LOVED ONES...(Im tearing up, hang on...) which is why I love DB so much...its like Im still there...

The remark that Rangel made could have been made about anywhere ...and it was the way he " backstepped" (just like Kerry did )..that got my attention...He said " OH I JUST LOVE NEW YORK SO MUCH ....CANT IMAGINE ANY ONE NOT WANTING TO LIVE HERE....whatthaf**k ever.....

POLITICAL leaders are so damn condisending(sp)..... and think we are sooooo Stupid...that we dont notice their total disrespect for the people that pay their salaries...and bennies....

At least it's a branch and not a stump.

And I agree KY is a rather scenic state.

Rangel wants to reinstate the draft in hopes of stirring up anti-war protests. I think the so called “Progressive” Democrats are stuck in a ‘60s Vietnam mentality and haven’t kept up with the times.

Go back to the draft?!?! Yeah. Ok. Then watch the Army of One become the Army of One Less. Is this guy insane? OH WAIT! Let me guess, he's never been in uniform has he? I don't even have to look it up, I already know he hasn't. Only some uninformed political D.A. would come up with that idea. Wait till the guys at work hear about this! Hey, someone tell this guy its ok to turn the draft on, but he gets the first number!

He has a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart, I suppose he got them being some uninformed political D.A. eh?

He's introduced this legislation before, spinning it as an anti-war trick might give be good fodder for the conservative crowd but a leading General says the Army hasn't got the manpower for an extended increase in the Iraq troop levels and to be able to respond to other situations. Just how should this be handled?

Im thinking the draft would be a good thing..... Kids (not all) come out of our school systems without a clue of how to manage their lives...without skills...or a choice of a decent job...without an idea of much of anything ...they are still so young and alot of them are not college material.....and because they are 18 ...alot of them are told they are now adults and need to get a job.... thats some scary shit , they are not prepared for ADULTHOOD....

I came from the age of the draft.... and my hubby joined as he knew he would be drafted....The military proved to be a career for him.... we had a good life... got to see alot of things and go alot of places...he did have to go to Nam twice...but thankfully he got thru that ...he did die at the age of 49 ....brain tumor... (dont know if it was a Nam thing...doubt it... but you never know)...

One example of a military structure for kids.... my Nephew was a teen age A**HOLE ...his dad sent him to St Johns ?? close to Salina...I think thats the name..... His life turned around like you would not believe...and didnt' get to go for very long...it was too expensive...but the short time he was there he learned to be responsible ...and has a great life now....makes gooooood money and you know....... LIVING THE AMERICAN DREAM.....

I think a 2 year stint in the military right after they graduate high school would be good for kids...male and female...NO COLLEGE... until they muster out.....cause God knows .... seems like the first 2 years of college is just a great big DRINKFEST anyway...so why not grow up a little before college..

JUST MY HUMBLE OPINION

I would never accuse the New York Times of spinning something into fodder for the conservative crowd.

Bill to Restore the Draft Is Defeated in the House
By CARL HULSE

ASHINGTON, Oct. 5 - Trying to quiet fears of a return of the draft, the House Republican leadership engaged in a hasty call-up of its own on Tuesday. The Republicans brought to the floor a Democratic-sponsored proposal to reinstate mandatory military service and presided over its overwhelming defeat on a vote of 402 to 2.

"We're going to put a nail in that coffin," said the House majority leader, Representative Tom DeLay of Texas. He accused Democrats of generating opposition to President Bush - especially on college campuses - by raising the idea that the draft might be re-established after the November election to provide troops for service in Iraq.

Democrats were outraged at the tactic, charging Republicans with a cynical political ploy on a matter that merited more thoughtful hearings and debate. The Democrats originally introduced the measure early last year as a way to protest the war, even before it began, and to spotlight how low- and middle-income Americans shoulder much of the burden of serving in the military.

"It is a prostitution of the legislative process to take a serious issue and use it for political purposes on the eve of the election just to say they are against the draft," said Representative Charles B. Rangel, Democrat of New York, the author of the bill, who ended up voting against it. .....
