| Diabetics on the road Lately, I have seen a bunch of stories about diabetics having diabetic episodes while driving. With all the hooplah about seniors driving, seems like this would be a concern as well. This video is what happened in Sumner County TODAY (hold down your CONTROL key to allow popups)

| did we see the same thing? I saw the dump truck and the diabetic. - Let me really scare ya - know how many folks have breakthru seizures while driving? Scary - that's why ya always look out for the other guy! Lucky feller there - he either doesn't monitor closely or perhaps didn't eat right, didn't eat and took his insulin, hell who knows - but ya usually don't just all of a sudden go hypoglycemic or hyperglycemic without some warning. Unless he's newly diagnosed and just diabetic stupid. They can take your liscense for that stuff! Glad to hear he's pulling himself off the road - course he probably had little choice in the matter.

| alright - found it. Pretty scary. I passed out several years ago from hypoglycemia. Take better care of myself since then, and will never forget it. Sounds like the guy is thinking square by staying off the road till he gets his blood sugar level, but why didn't he do that before? Thankfully, nobody was hurt.

| It’s not limited to diabetics. Some prescription drugs can cause black outs and temporary memory loss that have been linked to folks loosing control of their vehicle. This is not limited to seniors. Often doctors prescribe stuff and have no clue to side effects and refuse to deal with patient complaints. Anyone out there been told “It’s all in your head”? I heard last week about an 80 year old lady that damn near died because a doctor wasn’t paying attention and gave her something that wasn’t compatible with what she was already taking. Most folks are conditioned do as a doctor says without question. We have to be vigilant and check out any prescription ourselves before taking it. To be sure doctors don’t know how to handle it when a patient stands up and calls BS.
