I have some questions that you might be able to help with. It is my understanding that you have the Budweiser Center that is managed by Global Entertainment. Would you say that the city and residents are generally pleased with the management of the center ? What kind of events are at the center? Are you pleased with the type and number of events that Global Entertainment provides? I ask these questions because Dodge City is considering entering into a contract with a new event center that is to be constructed here. Your help and answers would be greatly appreciated.

I will let you know if and when I get an answer from the Ft. Collins Chamber office.

Does anyone know why they're stuck on Ice Hockey? Could it be they own the franchise?

The Central Hockey League is operated by Global Entertainment Corporation through its WPHL, Inc. subsidiary. Global (OTCBB: GECO) is a diversified sports management, arena development and licensing company. Its subsidiary companies include: International Coliseums Company, a project manager for arena development and responsible for management agreements associated with arena facility operations; Global Entertainment Marketing Systems that pursues licensing and marketing opportunities related to the Company’s sports management and arena developments and operations; Global Entertainment Ticketing (GetTix.net), an in-house ticketing company for sports and entertainment venues; and Cragar Industries, Inc., the licensor for CRAGAR, its nationally recognized, branded automotive wheels and products.
There's more here: Central Hockey League

Dodge isn't the only city in Kansas asking taxpayers to mortgage their grandchildren's future. In Overland Park, they asked us (taxpayers) to allow them to build a huge soccer field complex. They said it was for the children's teams to play on. That made sense and necessary until they spouted off the numbers for the "events" that would be held there, including a stadium for the Kansas City soccer team. Well, the KC soccer team never told us they wanted to come here - and what would Overland Park get out of the deal if they did? We pay a $hit-load of money for the 14-year-old to play soccer each fall and spring - I can imagine it would be even more on new fields with adequate seating. I dunno. If Overland Park (one of the richest zip codes in Kansas) won't fund it without a solid plan, I can't see how Dodge City could do it. My old hometown is gonna tax itself to death! And still see most of the paychecks sent south!

people were asking the same questions at the meeting. They were pushing the whole hocky -thing. People were askin how we are going to get mexacins interested in hockey. Then one of the city leaders spoke up and said that Ice hocky is so similar to their "futbol".

A lot of people were drillin the firm with questions about us funding possible sortfalls in budget.(with the race track in mind)

Then Mitch Leonard spoke up and asked the firm..."Do ya kinda feel like the guy trying to date a girl that has just been dumped??"

Then another woman spoke up and said "We got a racetrack we would like ya to take over as well" This drew laughter from the entire crowd.

There is no doubt that they are using their nfluence as management firm to further their own hockey league interests.

An interesting blog:

....snip....

Pilozzi has scouted the Chevrolet Center in Youngstown, Ohio, which was developed by Global Entertainment, as a possible example of how an arena can aid a decidedly blue collar municipality.

The Chevrolet Center was constructed with a $27 million grant from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development.

“These current events highlight the multiple levels of service we offer our target markets. In our traditional role we offer a single-source that begins with the concept phase of an events center, moving on to the development phase that leads to the long-term management of the operational facility."

"Where circumstances dictate a lesser role our multiple subsidiaries act independently to realize a market opportunity that did not require the entire breadth of services Global is capable of providing,” said Rick Kozuback, president and chief executive officer of Global Entertainment.

“The strength of our organization remains our ability to provide industry expertise in all areas of project development and facility operation in our chosen communities.”

Anywhoo, and enough of this pawin' & diggin, it appears that these boys are pros.

And that begs the question: Are we gunna give them the farm or rent it to them?

I would think that if they get all money associated with every event, they should pay the city a fee to manage the building that we spent the money to build. That's my 2 cents.
