It would be nice if the public could read and discuss the contract before it's approved. Let's face facts; they want "it" for 20 years and the Dodge City signors are only in office for just a few... a very few. Tar is easy to find but feathers aren't.

I got an answer back from the Ft. Collins Chamber of Commerce. Here it is:

Thank you for your inquiry. I would say the local residents are generally pleased with the type and number of events that Global Entertainment provides through the Budweiser Events Center aka “The Ranch”. They host a nice variety of events including big musical names, action shows such as pro wrestling and karate and high profile children’s acts. The exhibit halls also host popular business tradeshows and smaller meetings for the area.

You may want to check out the website for the Budweiser Event Center to see their current event schedule:

Budweiser Events Center at The Ranch

The Northern Colorado area has certainly benefited from the addition of The Ranch/Budweiser Events Center.

I hope this answers your questions.

Please let me know if I may be of further assistance.

Sincerely,

Annie Keith

Fort Collins Chamber Of Commerce

It would be nice if you could get some feedback from the area "residents", rather than the people that probably voted to use GE! I am sure that the CofC is probably "predjudiced"!

Unfortunately, I don't know anybody that lives in or around Ft. Collins. I did go to the website, it looked pretty interesting. They had plenty of stuff besides hockey. One that really stuck out to me was a David Copperfield show. Maybe we could get him and he could make a meat packing plant or 2 disappear!

You may get some more candid answers posting to the Fort Collins community forums here. They have 941 users that would probably give ya some good insight.

Personally, I am FOR the SEC, but I am against paying an outside company to MANAGE anything in Dodge City.

Are we a bunch of DUMB HICKS that would not be able to run and promote this SEC? It seems to me that we are becoming dependent on those SMART management companies from Colorado to run things in good ol' DC.

Do we need to keep pumping money into these companies that come and make bogus agreements then run with our MONEY?

I would venture to guess that most people on the dodgeboard could step up and make a better management company, as WE know what we want in the form of entertainment, and WE know what venues would work and which ones would not. WHY do we need someone in a different state to tell us how to do it??

Knowing only what I have read here and a very few other on-line sources it would appear that given the history of the leadership and management ability in DC outsourcing the day to day management an events center is probably a good idea. However a good company (and I don't know if this one is good or not) is going to make one think at they are getting the farm.

The outline as Tee presented definitely looks onesided towards the management company. I would hope that in their desire to get an events center up and running the local government would have appropriate deliverables, penalty and opt-out clauses in any agreement they came up with. If the management company balked at such clauses then the population and leaders would the proposed management company is not prepared to stand behind their work.

But if they are going to build one finally, then they need to get a management company. People in SW Kansas have shown they will travel. If Dodge could ever get it going and settle on appropriate regional entertainment then drawing from the Liberal's, Garden City's, Guymon's et al of the area plus managed in a way that makes it prohibitve for the other communties to build the same could be a decent long term strategy.

It would be beneficial if the money committee would waste a little more money and organize a Due-Diligence committee and send them to 5 locations for a look-see and for them to do a little Q&A (not T&A) of the local businesses who surround those centers.

I would be vital for said committee to not go under any representation of Global.....
