I have mixed feelings about this subject. I've always been a supporter of the Special Events Center. I originally voted for it and have eagerly waited for it's completion. I even reluctantly voted for having it in Wright Park, I knew the vote was just a way for some of the idiots in the commission to trick us into voting against the project altogether. I'm not a big fan of some company running it and making most of the money from it, but I think we'd have like a 99% better chance of attracting more people with some "different" kinds of entertainment. If entertainment ideas were left to our closed minded officials here, we'd have a real nice arts and crafts center. We need to have some exciting, interesting, loud, and (dare I say it) controversial events in this city. I'd likely go to a concert around here if they weren't all cow jazz and christian music. I just hope if the city does want to run it, they open up their minds to a younger, less politically correct audience. Bottom line: let's get the thing built already, It's only been a decade since we voted for it.

The management company looks like they have the right contacts to get good shows, and they do that for a living. Our local officials would just screw it up, they do that for a living.

PostPosted: Thu Nov 16, 2006 6:33 pm Post subject: Budweiser Center at the Ranch

I am a new member visiting your board in hope that I can get some info from you good folks of Fort Collins and the surrounding area. The information I am seeking is on the Budweiser Center and the company that manages it, Global Entertainment.

I am from Dodge City, KS and we are considering entering a contract with Global Entertainment for a yet to be built Special Events Center. I would like anybody's opinion on the way Global Entertainment manages your center there. Are the majority of the local residents pleased with the frequency and types of events that are brought in? Have there been any major dissapointments? What type of events do you normally have?

Any help with information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

From what I have seen and heard, everyone seems satisfied. I could offer a little constructive criticism but most would come from my opinion. You know what they say about those. They do manage to round up some big name talent for the concerts and I have heard no complaints about anything. I have been to other events that I have not been pleased with but that could just be me and my likings. Maybe someone else will chime in and offer their input.

At first I thought it wouldn't be that great of an idea, but after further consideration, I think it is the way to go if we want to have successful events. They have the other venues and the contacts to do the job right.

I know when a promoter gets a group to schedule, they get them for a certain number of days and a certain number of shows during those days. So, since they have the center in Ft. Collins, CO Broomfield, CO Rio Rancho, NM. Let's say they get Faith Hill to do 4 concerts in a specific 8 day period, Dodge City would be a good fit for a show with the other 3 venues listed above.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

I'm with Bubba on leaning more and more towards Global.

I have two concerns.
  • The details of our contract with Global.
  • The benefits to area businesses.

We sold-out to Applebee's and I would hope we aren't so easy with Global.

Researching gaming last spring I came upon one common problem with gaming areas; people don't linger long after gambling. They scoot home.

Will this be similar?
