Interesting. Hubby was from not far from there. It's a hard place. People are hard workin'. I think we could all learn from this...it's time to take a stand. The ending paragraph wondered aloud whether it was legal. Oh my sweet Jesus. What is illegal about this? The people they're trying to deport. The council's resolution itself is legal in every way - they don't have to put up with illegal immigrants and they've shown they won't. I have to applaud their efforts.

This was on 60 Minutes last night. Looks like something that the whole country should look at. Of course, the ACLU is fighting it! As the Mayor says, "if it's that bad up here in Pennsylvania, then what's it like farther South"----ie-like in Dodge City, Kansas!!!!!

Sometimes I just have a hard time understanding Americas failure to learn from it's mistakes.

Abuse of past immigrants still haunts us to this day. I know most view Americas importing of immigrants for cheap labor as all Americas fault, but some time read not in our school *cough* "history books" but from actual historical documents. Many, if not most, Blacks and Chinese came here of their own free will. Not shanghaied or kidnapped and forced as some history books paint it.

Thats not to say that because they came here of their own free will we had the right to take advantage of them, but to point out our present immigrant issue is not all that different from the past. They(Blacks and Chinese) also came here looking for a better life and were taken advantage of just like our immigrants of today.

Today we are still paying for the greedy acts of our past American businesses that felt it necessary, to their pocket book, to abuse immigrants for cheap labor. What they felt was good for Americas economy at the time, is now costing US a fortune.

/me sets the time circuit for 2106 and hits the gas.

Imagine what future we are laying the foundation for for our children. Our abuse of immigrants by corporate America in the past was nothing like the numbers today. We need tough immigration laws TODAY or America is destine to repeat it's past mistakes and lay out a dismal future for America.
