Can anyone tell me why the local P.D. and S.O. do not enforce the laws that are on the books (Federal and State)? Why don't the city fathers pass ordinances (that are court proof) to deal with housing and the like? Why doesn't the State look into controling the monies that go south of the border to support a forgein government? I personally asked the State Senator from Flower (wherever) to look into this problem on the first Tuesday of November. Why? Why? Why?

It took years for this to develop and putting a cork in it would be very costly to lots of very fine folks.

If instant enforcement were to happen, the packers would adjust to the market and most of the cattle producers would crash along with the farmers producing the cattle feed. Don't forget about the numerous supporting businesses......

I think the illegal immigrant issue needs to be enforced at a local level. Give local law enforcement the power to address the illegal problems. The way it works now local law enforcement does all the legwork and then the Fed's come in and take over years of hard work and grab the headlines.---Detector

I don't think it's so much being ordered to look the other way but that they cannot enforce immigration laws. I'm sure one of our PD poster can shed some light on it.

Local law enforcement deals with these people on a daily basis and through that know or at least have a good idea who is illegal. When the Fed's decide to put o a show for the public they come in and get the local information then grab the headlines.

Regardless, this is still a nation of laws, abiding is still the norm, until we get caught. Someone had better start catching them, or they will run us over, in more ways than one.

They know our hands are tied by our own politicians. They are looking for the land of opportunity so they can run it into the ground - they are born of poverty, and they thrive in poverty. Your taxes are gonna make their poverty life better - they know you can't do anything about it. Politicians don't wanna do anything about it cause the big businesses have the politicians in thier pockets........ just sucks don't it?

seriously, do you always drive at or below the posted speed limit? If your answer is no, then you have committed a crime on the same level as someone crossing the border illegally the first time.

Me thinks this is where the reform needs to start.

Jest to stir the pot, I ask you to enter Mexico illegally and secure a job with forged/bogus papers (and get caught) so'z you can have a real comparative.

Moderate speeding is usually 100 pesos (about $10 US). Due and payable on the spot.

As long as you're jesting fine, but I don't need to go to Mexico illegally to secure a job. I can secure one legally there. Thanks but I prefer a four season climate and potable drinking water.

$300/month expenses? Maybe I should reconsider.........

Out of curiosity, do you agree or do you not agree that the illegal entry and attempt to establish residency in the US should be classifed as a more serious offense than it is presently considered?

My quick answer would be most definitely. Of course like any law we have varying degrees of enforcement. Like driving 33 in a 30 most officers will overlook the offense depending on the situation. Who is to say that "first time" boarder crosser isn't coming to sell drugs, join a gang, rob some place and dash back to Mexico or find a job.

Personally, I see no comparison in a traffic violation and illegally entering the country.
